  our hen Ella is not well. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to her symptoms. Her face (where her skin shows) is pale yellow/tan, not the usual ruddy red, she's been been somewhat sluggish and sleepy (altho she will get up and go outside with the others), and today I realized that she's not actually eating. She makes normal pecking motions, but not close enough to the food. Even when I tried to get her to eat out of my hand, she would peck but not connect with the feed or actually take it into her beak. Fortunately she's drinking water OK. I have her indoors now to see if she'd feel better if she warmed up. We haven't been heating our coop, but it's not drafty, has pretty deep bedding, and they seem to have been doing ok. We have 3 bantam Cochins, 2 silkies, and one tiny adoptee of unknown breed who looks like she's half pigeon. Also, does anyone have chicken vet suggestions, preferably in or close to Providence? Thanks!

  Dr Ader in West Warwick knows birds really well. Others will see birds but don't really know their physiology. Number- 401-738-6695.Call right away for an appointment.
