FLEA QUESTION, FOOD ADVICE NEEDED. I have a difficult flea situation for which I'm attempting to find a solution. Our Aussie A has no issues with the most common flea medication and we've got her on Comfortis, which is supposed to be VERY effective at killing all adult fleas that come in contact with her. Aussie B is allergic to everything under the sun, so it's unfortunately not safe to give him Comfortis. Instead, when we tried him on Capstar he immediately began having seizures. He hadn't had a seizure in over a year, and ended up having 3 in the week after we gave him a few doses of Capstar.
Our vet recommended Capstar as it is generally very safe to give seizure-prone dogs. After the Capstar issue, her only other idea was Sentinel, which doesn't kill adult fleas, but makes them incapable of reproducing. It is supposed to be very safe for seizure dogs, and so far he's not had any issues on it. However, he still has adult fleas getting on him due to walks and any outdoor time, and is itching like MAD to the point where he's getting open sores & hot spots. Our only solution has been to give him Dawn and vinegar baths to deal with the adult fleas, which has been somewhat effective, but must be repeated constantly.
Do any of you have any suggestions on a solution that can deal with the adult fleas on our seizure-prone aussie? Food additives? Garlic? How much? Does it negatively effect seizure-prone dogs? Thank you for any help at all! We are on round *4* of fleas in the last two months, with a newborn in the house... I might lose my mind.
