About us

Friday, May 4th 2012 our lives were changed forever. Jeremy was told he has cancer. After further tests the Karp, Tharp, Andersen and Russell family met the Oncologist at Providence Oncology and Radiology Center where the devastating news was delivered. Jeremy has Extensive Stage Small - cell Carcinoma.

Small - cell Carcinoma is a type of highly malignant cancer that most commonly arises within the lung. Unfortunately, in Jeremy’s case it has metastasized to his liver, adrenal glands and small portion of his spine. The prognosis with treatment is just 7-8 months. Without treatment he could only have 3-4 weeks to live. Typically, this type of cancer is seen in patients who smoke cigarettes (which he does not) and adults who are much older than an otherwise, healthy 35 year old man. There is no surgery to remove the dreaded disease or the promise that with treatment the cancer won’t return.

As we all sat in a tight circle of chairs of the small counseling room, Jeremy asked, “So you’re telling me I won’t be around to teach my son to drive or see my daughter off to her Prom or walk her down the aisle when she gets married or teach my son how to fight?”. The doctor responded quietly, with a grim, “No, not likely”.

The last few months Jeremy has not been feeling well and had a dry cough which was a nuisance. The dry cough would come and go, but then returned with difficulty to breath and a pain in his chest he had never experienced before. He was more tired than usual, but blamed it on the physical demands of his job. He decided he should get checked out and when they took the X-ray on Wednesday, May 2nd they found a shadow on his lung that looked suspicious. If he had continued to ignore his symptoms his condition would have rapidly deteriorated while the cancer aggressively spread throughout his body.

Jeremy’s main concern is his family. He is fighting for his life so he can spend as much time with his son, Jase (7 years old) and... show more
daughter, Ann Marie (8 years old) and his high school sweetheart, April. He seems to not be concerned about himself or has expressed his fear of dying, but has high anxiety of being ill which will prohibit him from doing the things he wants to do with his family in such a short amount of time he has been given.

While continuing to visit our site, please keep Jeremy in your heart and prayers. He thanks everyone for all the kind words of encouragement and support. Our friends and family are the only things that we care about in this difficult time and we are all so very grateful to have each and every one of you in our lives. show more
