About us
Originating as a small theme camp at Burning Man 2011, the Steampunk Saloon has grown in size and popularity over the last four years and has become a favorite watering hole at festivals all over Southern California, including Los Angeles Decompression, “BEquinox” in Joshua Tree, and “YOUtopia” near San Diego. This past year at Burning Man 2014, the Steampunk Saloon’s new home was in a prime location on the corner of 5:00 and Esplanade, right next to Pedal Bump in the Red Nose District. It was a match made in heaven with exposure to 60,000 Burning Man participants, and we plan to have a similar set-up for Burning Man 2015.
Steering clear of the typical “cogs and gears” stereotype of Steampunk, we have a unique team of performers that look and dress the part of what we call “SteamPunk” — an edgy 1880s/“punk” approach to the movement. The Saloon is made of striped and damask print fabric wrapped around rock and roll truss. The deco is all hand-picked vintage pieces, and the bar, deco display shelves, saloon doors, and two wooden swings are all hand-made. Our saloon doors have become a very popular photo op at every event we attend, and the old furniture, plush vintage couches, and the warm, amber light of the Steampunk Saloon's chandeliers make it an inviting sanctuary where patrons can rest in the shade during the heat of the day or snuggle up with their friends on the couches at night. We cater the saloon to each event’s needs and aim to make it a unique venue for all of its guests. The Steampunk Saloon is truly a labor of love with a devoted and dedicated crew.
