This leaves us without our moving helpers because they aren’t available Memorial Day weekend. Are there any small movers you would recommend to help us? It’s just a studio apartment & she doesn’t own much stuff, but we do need help to move a washer drier into her new place (one flight of stairs up). I already tried 2 Men & a Truck and they are not available.

You may have some luck there if you don't want or need the full service from a professional moving company. The people I went with were a husband and wife crew and were perfect for what I needed. If you have access to both places and want to save a bit of money you can definitely move everything you can yourself over time and use their help to walk the heavy pieces down the road without a truck/van.

cbrian13 replied:I just moved this week. I hired movers using U-Haul's movinghelp.com. For $195 I got 2 movers for 3 hours (plus a U-Haul truck for ~$90). IMO it was a great deal - they worked their asses off and got a lot done in 3 hours. However, most of my furniture is cheap stuff from college and some of it got banged up a bit, so I probably would pay more for professional movers if I had nice furniture.

We moved twice within a few months recently and due to budget constraints did this for the first move. It was DEFINITELY not as convenient but it was about $250 for the first move. We hired Bellhops (3 people for 3 hours) for the second move and it was $550. If you are going to use a full-service moving company, I would recommend Bellhops.

One time I had done the 'give us a list of your stuff and we'll move that stuff' and I missed a couple things and the other time I hired hourly and needed some additional time. The movers were always happy to help with a promise to take care of them.

bilged replied:If you go on the uhaul website they have a listing of movers with reviews and pricing. I found a company on there for my move that did a great job and were pretty cheap. Edit: actually it all is done on a 3 rd party website movinghelp.com. This is for labor only I think so you rent a truck or trailer and hire guys to load/unload. Can be very cheap if you don't mind doing the driving.

You save a ton renting truck on your own and only using movers for the times you need. I needed the bigger furniture moved, but not so much the smaller boxes. Hired 2 movers for 2 hours and spent another couple finishing up, then hired 2 more movers to unload at new place. Plenty of different options/prices and reviews on site. Doing it again for upcoming move.

Any recommendations? Looks like 2M&T pricing on boxes is about $3 for a 1.5cube and almost $4 for a 3cube.

So... you might see one that's super cheap but crap ratings, vice versa, or somewhere in between. I used 2 companies (one to pack & load my stuff in city A, another to unpack & move in when I got to Vegas). Both companies did a spectacular job. The first came out with a couple hours notice (when my plan A failed). The second did some misc set-up for me and didn't charge me for it. Hope that helps!
