I am looking for recommendations for a reputable moving company. Any info is appreciated

If you don’t mind renting a truck from U-Haul and doing the driving your self I highly recommend Smith Movers (book thru Movinghelp.com). I used them yesterday to move my office and they were literally RUNNING at the end to get the job done in the 3 hours I’d scheduled. Real hard workers. Super nice and careful too.

Twstdroot replied:
Yes. https://www.movinghelp.com/ I used some guys from here years ago. You pay by the hour. They did a pretty good job. We were moving instate so we had them load and unload (most) of the uhaul.

We moved from Ohio to RI a year ago, used Joyce van lines. Highly recommend although we packed dishes, books, linens, clothing, small stuff ourselves.

Harris and crew out of Pawtucket. I have used them a bunch of times. They’re on movinghelp.com. Can’t say enough about them. They move their ass. Packed a 26 ft uhaul in less than 2 hrs.

I joined the Facebook “Rhode Island Craigslist” group and found movers for cheap. I got MANY offers, too

Try Phlatbed - mobile app that connects you with local folks who can help you move / load stuff on-demand. We used them in Stamford (to Chelsea NYC), Norwalk (to Weston), and in Boston, and now recommend as every opportunity. [Phlatbed.com](https://phlatbed.com/) Cheap, fast, easy and on-demand. Basically the uber for moving stuff.

I've used Art of Moving twice in the last year. Once when I was moving into an apartment and then when I moved into a house. They were absolutely fantastic... We used Joyful Movers when we first moved down here. They only did the unloading of the truck into our third-story apartment. They were super-professional, careful and very nice. I would definitely recommend them, except... We just recently moved into our new house, six miles from our apartment. I tried to get Joyful Movers again. I had to leave them a message, but they never called me back. Not good. (But that's a whole other discussion: businesses down here have a lot of trouble calling back potential customers. In this area, your service business will really stand out if you simply call people back!) Anyway... I wasn't going to chase after Joyful Movers. We ended up using Two Men and a Truck. They were on time, on schedule, and on budget, but not very careful. I wouldn't recommend them because of that, but if you do hire them, watch for damage of your items and walls.
CodenameDuckfin replied:
[MovingHelp.com](http://www.movinghelp.com) is a great place to check out. Verified customer can leave reviews and ratings, and the movers only get paid if you're satisfied with the job they did.

We moved about a month ago and used Upwright Moving. I can't say enough good things about the crew we had. They were courteous, fast and careful with all of our belongings. Not only that, but they were the best rate we found.

We moved in May and used DSR Moving Corporation. They had good reviews on Yelp and good prices. Moved us out of our 3 rd story apartment into a house without any problems.
Moving within the city. Any mover recommendations? For people who have moved within the city, do you have any movers to recommend?
The quotes I got from moving...
orm518 replied:
Movers generally have a cost floor. Like, I would be shocked to find a reputable movers quote below the $500 you got. It's also just an estimate, know that you can do a lot to reduce the cost by pre-packing stuff to reduce the time needed. I used Gentle Giant and the quote they gave me at first was a bit inflated, because they don't want to mess up their other stops that day they'd rather quote 4 hours and have it take 3 than quote 3 and have it take 4. So, I did some negotiating, convinced them that we'd have a lot of stuff boxed up already, and we moved a 2BR apartment across PVD in about 4 hours, when they'd quoted it at 6 hours. Total cost: $650 plus a tip. Best money I've ever spent. Will never move myself again. But, you could definitely do less up front work and spend way more. The movers said sometimes they walk into apartments that don't even look like people are moving out of, and the tenants expect the movers to box and pack things for them. Movers will do that, but the clock is running.

I no longer live in RI, but I twice used [Danny's Auctions](http://www.dannysauction.com/). They have a team and a truck that just does moving jobs. They're barebones (no blankets, no plastic wrap), but work cheap. I think it was maybe $75/hr back in 2009 and 2012 when we used them.

Any of them really. Google reviews is your friend in this situation. I used to be in the moving industry (the behind the scenes, office stuff)... here is my one piece of advice, do not cheap out. This is truly a situation of getting what you pay for. Good luck, friend.

CobraCabana replied:
I would stay away from Crabtree It was a disaster from start to finish. They literally damaged every piece of wooden furniture that they touched. They even took a crowbar to my bed frame to get the mattress out.
They didn’t come prepared with the proper tools to dismantle my bed. Even though I told them exactly what would be involved. Then they left a 12 year old (no exaggeration) to settle the bill after going over the estimate because they didn’t prep.
Getting them to repair the damaged wood was a hassle. Even though I paid for the extra insurance. They actually sent over a dude with a touch up pen to fix all the cracks and gouges left by the crow bar.
I had to tell them to send over a professional furniture repair technician. Which they tried to avoid because of the cost.
Too bad you couldn’t get Trosa. They were solid. The only movers I’ll ever use again.

Little Guys is amazing. They were super fast, careful with our stuff, and couldn't have been nicer. We'll absolutely be using them again the next time we move. I've also heard good things about Trosa, but we had a similar experience as yours when we tried to get a reservation 2 months out (booked solid). Not worth the stress of trying to plan 3+ months ahead of time when your exact move date might not be set in stone.
DefinitelyAaron replied:
Try checking out Neighbor moving. They are an operation from Neighbor2Neighbor which is an urban community-building org that does some great stuff with underprivileged people in Raleigh. [https://www.neighbormoving.com/](https://www.neighbormoving.com/)

I have been searching as well. From my search through this sub I've seen Trosa, All My Sons, and College Hunks get recommended. I did call Trosa and All My Sons. All My Sons is extremely quick to work with in terms of communication and will send someone out to get an accurate quote if requested. I asked about a 2 bd room apartment (also 3 rd floor) they estimated $1100 for packing and moving everything. I would imagine yours would be significantly cheaper if its just big stuff.
GigglesTheKid replied:
I just moved a couple months ago, used All My Sons to move a 2 bedroom apartment. Granted, I don't actually have a ton of stuff, but they're service/follow up was great, the move itself only took maybe 2 hours (short distance). The cost was fairly low, actually less than I was expecting, but I was also moving 1 st floor to 1 st floor.

When I reserved a Uhaul through their website a few months ago I was given the option of hiring movers via MovingHelp.com. Got a few guys for 4 hours from Flex Force and they were fantastic! [Lakewood] Packers/Movers Does anyone have a recommendation for Packers/Movers in the Denver/Lakewood area?
Also, any companies to avoid?
dustlesswalnut replied:
Every time I've moved in the past decade I've rented a truck from Budget and guys to load and unload it on movinghelp.com. can be pretty reasonable in terms of price, never had any bad experiences.
ElLechero replied:
If it's a 1-bedroom or smaller local move I'd recommend using Dolly (they have an app). They don't do packing though. They will tell you how much it will cost beforehand (as long as your inventory is accurate) and stand behind the price. It is generally just people with pickup trucks so they're not as great for any thing big. Round the Clock has been good too, but it in all cases it just depends on what crew you happen to get. I'd also recommend packing your own stuff.

Do NOT go with Warren's Homework. The entire time they moved me the movers were just talking about tips other people had given them or failed to give them. Subtle much?
They lost a couple of things, only $20 worth of stuff so no big deal. However when I called them to ask about this (literally within an hour of the movers leaving), they didn't know anything and said they'd call me back the next day. The next day I don't get a call, so I call and they say they'll investigate and call me back in a few days. I don't get a call, so I call a week later and they say they'll investigate and call me back in a few days again. I don't get a call, so I call back a week later and finally the person I get just says "We're not responsible and we consider this matter closed." OK, cause I'm trying to scam you for $20.
In terms of not breaking stuff and being fast I was happy, but the constant mentioning about tips was annoying and the customer service was abhorrent.

http://www.movinghelp.com/ You give them some basic info about your move, then they provide a list of movers & what they offer to do it for, all with ratings. So... you might see one that's super cheap but crap ratings, vice versa, or somewhere in between. I used 2 companies (one to pack & load my stuff in city A, another to unpack & move in when I got to Vegas). Both companies did a spectacular job. The first came out with a couple hours notice (when my plan A failed). The second did some misc set-up for me and didn't charge me for it. Hope that helps!

DrDalekFortyTwo replied:
You might try a place like Labor Finders. They don't pay that great (I think) but you can compensate for that by tipping the folks you hire so they are being paid appropriately for their labor. The benefit I see by helping businesses and workers in your new community if you're not needing the level of service you'd need from a professional moving company. Just a thought.
