We received a call in the middle of the night for a birthing mama that had been in labor two days and had already given birth to 12 pups Friday night. On Saturday morning, her family brought her to Emergency, where they were informed she had two remaining puppies, one lodged in the birth canal and one without heartbeat in the uterus.
They were told she would need cesarean section, but the family had no money and did not qualify for care credit (nor did any of the friends or family they had try to apply). Early this morning, the family informed us she had passed the remaining puppies.
Two PLR volunteers, one who is a vet tech, arrived at the family's home this morning to assess mama and the babies. Mom was now absent lactation, extremely weak, and vomiting. It was discovered there was still a deceased puppy in the canal, which she finally expelled. She was showing the classic symptoms of septic shock, and our volunteers rushed her to the Rochester Community Animal Clinic, where life saving efforts have been underway all afternoon. They are closing, however, and E-Vet is her only likely chance at this point.
This family has no money, and as we have been repeating a lot recently, we are flat out tapped. We need your support to help us save this girl. Please help us to save Peanut.
