With so many (expensive) dog trainers, I was hoping you guys could point me to one that won't cost too much and will actually be pretty effective.

  Depends where you live, but there is a club in Pasadena called [pasanita obedience club](http://www.pasanita.com/). They have different levels of training, I have enrolled in all their classes, from puppy to advanced obedience, for three different dogs. They do a great job. They meet once a week for an hour, the cost is around $90 for 10 weeks of class. They are there to train you to train the dog. This is a group training and not one-on-one. They meet at the rose bowl.
