Suggestions on where to buy? I'm new to the hobby and was looking into a dob tabletop. I realize every telescope is on backorder and I don't mind waiting. Can anyone recommend some reliable online retailers? I've just been looking at Amazon and I doubt that's the optimal places to shop for telescopes.
Also, how do telescopes do on retaining value? Later down the line, If I decide to to upgrade to a bigger scope, would I get a descent return selling my used telescope, or do they depreciate in value like cars?
Thanks.

Highpoint Scientific, Agena Astro, OPTCorp, and telescope.com (Orion)are the three major retailers in astronomy, and there are plenty of other smaller shops. Anyone that accepts PayPal will be fine though. Used scopes do depreciate in value over time as would anything, but they don’t lose that much value. I’d suggest looking at Cloudynights or Astromart and seeing the prices of things compared to their new prices.
Would like to purchase a descent affordable telescope for my backyard/traveling. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I recently bought a Zhumell Z130 for $200. It travels very well and is a great kids / beginners scope. There is a downside to every telescope though and the downside to this one is that it stands about 2.5 - 3 feet tall. Over the summer I have just been laying next to the telescope on a blanket. We use it for family observing. The kids have no problem finding bright objects with the red dot finder and I have very much enjoyed sweeping the Milky Way with this telescope. For fall and winter I have an EQ mount I can put this telescope on, but a very sturdy small table would also do the trick. If you're looking for cheaper, the clearance section at telescope.com is a great place to buy.
Where is a good place to buy better quality telescopes? Someone told me sports stores but they told me they have 29.99 ones. Are there any stores for the 500ish dollar ones or is it an online only thing? Thanks for any info!

For 500 ish dollar range scopes worth buying, online is the best bet. telescope.com is the Orion store and I use https://www.optcorp.com/ for just about everything else. If you post what you want to look at, etc we can help you narrow down what to get. Also, before you buy something, check out what the LAS has available for sale.
Where is a good place to purchase telescope lenses?

My usual online sources for eyepieces are Oceanside (optcorp.com), Orion (telescope.com, but stay away from their cheapest ones), and University Optics (universityoptics.com). Keep in mind that you really only need two plus a barlow (or better, Powermate). There are sources online to help you pick an eyepiece set.
Hi - I'm new to this great hobby and recently purchased a new 12" LX200 GPS. I would like to purchase an illuminated eyepiece w/crosshairs but don't know which one. Can anyone recommend one and why...
1) I buy out of state because I live in California (high sales tax state). 2) Anacortes is excellent and gives a small discount for email purchases and another for cash (non credit card). Orion (www.telescope.com) sells the "celestron" reticle EP you mentioned. Actually most (almost all) of the online stores I have dealt with are quality merchants.
I just came across a used TAL 2m and found both the primary and seconday mirrors chipped and scratch as a result of shipping. Any idea where I can get good replacements? Thanks in advance,
will Bob, check with Orion Telescopes http://www.telescope.com/ They sell 6" f/8 parabolic mirrors and diagonals at very reasonable prices. The parabolic mirror should give even better images than the spherical mirror in your scope. If you are lucky the focus will be so close that you won't have to change any placements of mirror cell or focuser. Walt
