We offer veterinary services for all patients large and small, with the focus being on large animals. Appointments can be made for an ambulatory farm call or for the haul-in clinic. We are excited about the haul-in large animal clinic which offers a clean facility, safe handling equipment such as horse stocks and a full working cattle runway and chute, a temperature-regulated setting, a comfortable waiting area, grass and dry lots for animals, a convenient location, and a very large parking area for trailer maneuvering. As part of our new introductory service, the haul-in clinic fee will be waived for the next few months when you haul your animals to us - no farm/clinic call charge! It is always a pleasure to welcome new clients! We hope that all experiences in our haul-in clinic and at your farm with our ambulatory service are pleasant ones.

Need recommendations for an equine vet in the Green/North Canton or neighboring area. If you know approximate call out fees or or haul-out/office availability, that would be very helpful as well. Thanks!

I need an Equine Dentist for my horses. Does anyone have any recommendations? The vet said it needs to be someone who power floats.

Well I would suggest Dr. Trish Pugh but she is located in Louisville Ohio so not exactly close for you to travel to. I personally work with her practice at Red Star Vet Clinic and after seeing the many mouths that have been done with hand rasps and the train wrecks we are left with to correct I will only suggest trained vets that specialize in dentistry. Just like you an I, when going to the dentist you have to relax your jaw so that they can see in and all the teeth that you have so that the dentist is able to check each tooth. With a horse you cant exactly ask them to open wide so your vet will give them a light sedative to help relax all those powerful jaw muscles so they are able to insert a rather light speculum into the mouth to open up so you can see each and every tooth. Keep in mind horses have 36-44 teeth so there is alot to be looked at. Once they completely probe each tooth to be sure they are all healthy they will start with the dental and reduce down any sharp areas (hooks, points, ramps, etc) that need to be reduced. By using the speculum they are able to get all the way to the back and see what you need to reduce and get those areas, where with the hand rasp many dont use speculums and so you dont exactly see what your are doing nor can you fine turn your areas you want to reduce. Many of times with the hand rasps the person doing the dental will miss the back teeth, since they cant see into the mouth they completely miss an infected tooth that may need removed and lastly miss an area where a tooth is missing and so the other begins to grow much longer and if not corrected can cause the jaw to lock. Time frame for a dental from start of a physical exam, sedation, routine dental should take about 15 to 20 minutes. At the practice I work with on average we do 500+ dentals a year so I see lots of mouths. If your interested in traveling Red Star Vet Clinic does offer haul in appointments where you can bring them to us or we do travel out of the practice area and could come to you if there was several other horses to work on that day to help on the cost of fuel.
