Just a Note to Some People Who Have PM'd Me About Transporting Horses.... Please become familiar with the Federal Transportation Safety Administration laws concerning hauling horses in rigs that are over a certain Combined Gross Weight Rating and if you are hauling and charging money for it. You could well be in violation of the law. Vehicles over a certain combined gross weight rating and being used for any type of commercial endeavor (and by commerce, the law is referring to any money being made) are subject to federal laws if you are traveling interstate. You can be pulled over and forced to stop and be very heavily fined if you are not in compliance with Dept. of Transportation laws (specifically, you must have an actual DOT number on your vehicle). I recently published an article in Smart Choices for Horses on this very topic. I'm amazed at the responses I'm getting to this post from people with large size rigs who are transporting horses and who probably are not in compliance with federal trucking laws. I really appreciate all the responses, but PLEASE for your own good, check to make sure that what you are doing if you are privately transporting horses and getting paid for it. I sure would hate to see anyone getting pulled over for this.
