Yes Dawn will clean it right up! But, ANY detergent used will leave behind residue that will attract dirt and even though it looks clean in the beginning, over time it will cause premature wear and end up costing a lot of money in the long run... We use a dry-foam formula that crystallizes into powder as it dries, so that we are able to vacuum the soil laden crystallized foam up and out of the upholstery, rather than rubbing it down and into it, effectively spreading the stains so thin until you can't see them... nothing ever comes out that way not the soap or the stain... which is why upholstery tends to turn black over time... dirty soapy residue.. Here is a link to people who have attempted to clean carpet and upholstery using dawn. Don't end up having to replace it...
