I think it's time for me to buy a new sewing machine, any suggestions from my tailor/seamstress FB friends?
I need something affordable, that can actually sew, lol.

Try Presto Valet on Quaker. They may charge extra for the quick turnaround. I had a skirt hem fall out on my way to the office and since it was a simple job, they fixed it while I waited.

I was in the same situation recently. Just decided to buy a new suit instead of getting one altered, but Schwartz Tailoring on Rt. 7 is where I was going to go. The reviews say they can do quick service
Lisa B. replied:
Two thoughts - the dry cleaner at Pentagon Row is amazing and there is usually a seamstress on hand daily. Or, you can get fabric tape at CVS and iron your temporary hem in place, the steam melts it and holds it together.

I like Techy's Tailoring at 3301 Mt. Vernon Ave. 703-5535-5477 Carlos is the tailor. It's upstairs in the Area Safe and Lock building, just past the car wash at Glebe and Mt. Vernon.

Techys Tailoring on Glebe and Mt. Vernon may be able to complete the job.

Medieval Miscellanea Period Patterns has a Men's Italian Renaissance pattern which I used over 20 years ago. Possibly it's been improved but I'd say Tudor Tailor too. (Don't get me started on RH, I just pulled out both pieces of a cap - and they're both labeled "Coif Back." Ahem.) http://www.mediaevalmisc.com/pp-043.htm
