There are so many! I do volunteer work with Last Hope K9 Rescue and have adopted a dog from the MSPCA in Jamaica Plain in the past. There is also PAWS New England, where our current dog is from. They're all great resources. My sister got an awesome adult lab mix from Sterling Animal Shelter, as well. Good luck and take your time ... sometimes the dog has to find you. When you're ready for training, we've been to many classes at The Pet Republic in North Cambridge; great small classes, positive reinforcement training, and knowledgeable instructors.

We adopted the best dog ever from Save A Dog in 2004 (they are great, but I found their adoption process a tad anxiety provoking and they are a bit uptight re:kids- you need a fence and calm kids). Buddy Dog is down the road- also a good place to look. In 2014, we needed a new dog and we went to and spoke to a LOT of places. Both of the two mentioned above plus a few more. Northeast Animal shelter was very welcoming, high volume- gets truckloads in periodically and they are full, then other times more sparse- so you'll need to go several weekends in a row and be willing to walk away if your match is not there. In the end, we identified a dog who was in a foster home in the South, and got our dog trucked up from Alabama and met her in a burger king parking lot in vermont. It's a process and a blend of trying to find what you want and who you find that wants you. There are also breed specific rescues if you are focussed on one breed. A good place to start is petfinder, online.

Last Hope K9 Rescue has several volunteers here in Arlington. One of us could probably pick them up or you could drop them off.
I have a large trash bag of old towels and sheets. Is anyone collecting for and animal shelter or could you suggest a shelter/groomer I could bring them to? Thank you.
