Hello! Could anyone please recommend articles on massage indications/contraindications after an axillary or inguinal lymph node dissection?
My school did not offer me...

Contact Tracy Walton, Sat Siri Sumler or Geri Ruane. They are all knowledgable about oncology massage.

http://www.tracywalton.com/ is a good resource to start with. The physician or PT of the client is and equally good place to start for recommendations. You can also do a search on PubMed for relevant articles. Hope you find something useful and evidence based.

Klose Training out of Colorado for MLDT for cancer patients. They supply all the MLD certification training for the Peregrine Oncology Massage certification training. Gayle MacDonald, the original grandmother of the budding in-flight massage world is the definitive "go to" person with questions. S4OM.org is invaluable also. Good luck.

Erica Craig- is this at entry level. I often start my students at a higher level of cautions at the beginning of their training because in general their ability to distinguish a bruise from a tattoo is often challenged ( I exaggerate here, but you catch my drift). However, I go back to my original statement that the PTs and surgeons may have more published data on lymph issues than MTs do. Do not give up. You can find something.

PLEASE go to The Society for Oncology Massage website: S4OM.org. YOu will find information regarding this, and other important precautions to take. I encourage you to take a specified oncology massage training from one of our instructors. I am the Chair the Preferred Provider Committee for S4OM, please feel free to contact me with anything I can do to help. Thanks!
Morning Capers...Looking for referrals for a Primary Care physician in Arnold, Severna Park or Annapolis. Preferred Eastern/Western MD perhaps also with homeopathic...

To be honest I am not a huge alternative medicine person (other than chiropractic and massage) so I'm not 100% sure but my doctor Dr Courtney Milne-Krohn at Annapolis Internal Medicine is super smart, great and nonjudgmental generally and takes time with patients.. she's on maternity leave now but she's my favorite PCP I've ever had and I am **picky**

I like Lisa Keithley at MD Primary Care in Arnold. She rarely prescribes Meds... which can be frustrating for many but is really best practice. She often tells me to get a massage instead of a muscle relaxer etc. she also lived in Japan for a couple years so things like acupuncture and herbs are acceptable to her. The only only thing she does not budge on is vaccines but I'm ok with that.
