Emory Sikes at CIty Salon on Pharr Road. Most in-demand colorist in the city, and he flies to see clients in NYC about one week a month, so I don't know if appointments might be hard to come by. Full disclosure — Emory is a close friend whose services I can't actually afford, but whose work is runway-fabulous.

Salon Champu on 4 th btwn A and B. I can't remember the name of my chica but they have me on file and can tell you her name. And a serious discount if you mention you found them in NY Mag (and my reco). I decided to go a little lighter while in Brazil and ended up with tri-color hair. My stylist made it looked like it never happened. I think this link shows the discount halfway down http://nymag.com/listings/beauty/Cutting-Image-Salon/
BIG compliment to us. We just realized that a return client is actually a hair colorist in town! We're that good! We recognized her name, but we won't tell, client...
