Hey all, does anyone know of any weekly groups or classes that aren't fitness, kids or arts related? Wanting to join something but have fitness sorted, don't have kids...

Hi... Would you know of any deals on desexing that could be coming up (or somewhere that does not charge through the roof) near Mangere??
Help P. replied:
Hi Rachel. You are exceptionally lucky in Mangere in that your local vet does year round good deals. Mangere Vets in 95 Coronation Road, Mangere Bridge - 09 636 6732, charge just $30 for a male cat and $50 for a female. They are excellent vets and local Cat Rescue groups use them. Or, if this is still a bit too much for you, you should check out South Auckland Colony & Cat Rescue (I'll find the FB link for you in a moment). They are part of something called the SPCA Cat Coalition and can help you get your cats desexed for just $25. Hope this helps:-)

Oh durhh! OK, in that case, the Mangere Vets still do good prices for dogs, plus you could also contact the Humane Society. They will often provide up to 50% of the cost of desexing one pet per household. Their details are on their website www.humanesociety.org.nz. You will need to get a firm quote from a vet for the desexing and either call them or fill in their on-line application form. Definitely worth doing if you can. Good luck.

Help P. replied:
HI Nina - if your pup is a Staffy, Pitbull or similar breed (or cross) then Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue may be able to help http://www.chchbullbreedrescue.org.nz/. If not then it could be worth contacting the Humane Society on 09 630 0510http://humanesociety.org.nz/desexing-your-pet.html - they can often provide 50% of the cost of desexing. Good luck :) Chris

Years ago we trapped a stray and dropped it off at Swanson Vet. Might be worth giving them a ring to see if they still take them. You should be able to sorce a trap from the spca or council. Swanson vet may also know where to get one. On another note, I have used homoepathic drops on one of our cats with good success. If you ring Lincoln Mall Pharmacy on a Thursday or Friday and explain your one's symtoms, she may be able to give you something for stress.
Hi, where is the best value dog desexing around Akld? The local practice in my 'burb wants over $300! No wonder many people view some private practice vets as thieves!
Help P. replied:
Hi Richard ... the best value vets I know of are Mangere Veterinary Clinci on 09 636 6732. Dog desexing prices depend on sex and weight, so you would need to know the weight of your dog and then give them a call. Their lowest prices start at around $91 for a small male and go upwards. If you have a very large heavy dog and still need help, you should contact the Humane Society. They are usually able to help by funding up to 50% of the cost of one pet per household. Their details are on www.humanesociety.org.nz. Good luck, I hope you get on OK.
Hi there can you please tell me if theres any where affordable in the levin region to desex our cat at a reasonable price we were quoted $100 which seems a bit steep TIA.
Help P. replied:
Hi Dylan N Renee - there are no current desexing deals which we are aware of in the Levin area. At times your local SPCA have been able to help - but it just depends of they have funding available at the moment. Give them a call tomorrow to check 06 368 6910. Another option is KittyCat Fixers - but they have a waiting list at the moment. The cost can vary considerably between vets - so I would recommend calling all your local vets to compare prices. Good luck - please let us know how you get on.:) Chris
Help P. replied:
Or just had a thought - one other option is to apply for 50% grant from the Humane Society on 09 630 0510 - they can only help one pet per household so you need to be aware of that. As Chris says, get quotes from all the vets in Levin and then apply to the HS - if approved, they will pay their half into your account and the vet and you will need to pay the other half. Good luck, Jan
Hi, I am looking for low cost dog neutering in Tauranga for my daughters dog. He keeps breaking ropes and collars and has cost a small fortune to get out of the Pound. ...
Help P. replied:
Hi Careata - mount vet in totara street tends to be the cheapest although they have recently increased their prices. If you can wait till June, the low cost desexing van is due at the tga SPCA but that's still quite some time away. Or you could get a quote for the cost at a vet (chose the lowest) and then apply for a grant of 50% from the humane society. They can usually help one pet per household. Their number is 09 630 0510 or you could apply on line on www.humanesociety.org.nz. Hope this helps
hi there does anyone know of any places that will do discounted neutering for my beautiful wee girl dog in Chch? She is 5 yrs old and around 5kg.
Help P. replied:
Hi Angela - sadly, there is no discounted dog desexing in Christchurch at the moment. However, you should apply to the Humane Society of New Zealand as they will probably be able to help with 50% of the cost of desexing your little dog. You need to get a couple of quotes from local vets (they quote based on weight, so your little girl shouldn't be the most expensive!). Then, apply to the Humane Society - you can either call them on 09 630 0510 or fill out the online application form on their website - www.humanesociety.org.nz - good luck!

Help P. replied:
Hi Sarah. Unfortunately there is little to no help for desexing in your area and that amount does sound the going rate. However, you may qualify for some assistance with that from the humane society. You can apply by phone on 09 630 0510 or online at www. humanesociety.org.nz. Definitely worth doing as they can sometimes provide up to 50% of the cost, depending on your circumstances. Goop luck. HI - your best option would be to ring around your local vets to get a quote (price varies dependng on the weight of the dog), then apply to the Humane Society. This group is based in Auckland is run by volunteers, but they help people all over NZ. If you are a genuine case of hardship, they are able to help with up to half the cost of de-sexing one pet per household. They can be contact over the phone on 09 630 0510. Or, you can complete their online application form from their website, Good luck please let us know how you get on :) www.humanesociety.org.nz

Help P. replied:
Wendy Sparks ... just another thought. The Humane Society can offer financial assistance to desex one pet per household ... you can apply online. www.humanesociety.org.nz
Help P. replied:
Wendy Sparks - hi, Wendy ... The Animal & Bird Hospital in Linwood (tel 389 9034) offer reasonably priced desexing for everyone. I don't have all prices, but a male dog would be $160. Female would be a bit dearer. They would do microchipping as well, I'm pretty sure. Otherwise, I've not had much luck finding other organisations that will desex dogs in ChCh area .. and, of course, dogs are more expensive than cats to desex. I would also recommend 'shopping around' to several vets as prices do vary considerably. If you find a good one, let me know! I know the Cat Protection League also in Linwood on 381 0289 do good prices for desexing cats .... not sure if they would help with a dog, but worth a call ... they may know someone who can help. Good luck and if you could keep me posted with anywhere you find, I can add it to my new database. Jan

Help P. replied:
Sure. Depends on where she lives, but her best bet is The Humane Society who will probably be able to grant her 50% of the cost of de-sexing her dog. But if you can let me know where she lives, I may know of other options for her. Unfortuantely, I cannot help any more dogs for the time being as we are in the height of kitten season and my funds are really low at the moment. The Humane Society's website and contact details are www.humanesociety.org.nz. They are based in Auckland but can help anyone in NZ.
