Hi Community, I am finally mentally prepared to spend insane amounts of money on the small mans smile. Can anyone recommend a good orthodontist. Don't mind travelling...
Anna S. replied:
Best value ever is Jason Ng from Titirangi Dental Centre. He’s been amazing for me. I have teeth I never ever thought I could have as an adult. Top ones were always perfect. Bottom ones now match
Jen M. replied:
Thoroughly recommend Alpers Dental - A1 Awesome, they don't take teeth out either if there is overcrowding they realign your gums first then the braces go on... my top teeth were really misaligned, buck teeth, and crowded, I wore a plate to move my gums/jaw, which made gaps andI only needed braces for 9 months!!! They take a holistic approach, interest free and affordable... check them out... they are amazing with kids www.alpersdental.co.nz:)
Lisa B. replied:

Can anyone recommend a good Orthodontist that doesn't cost a fortune ???
Kym M. replied:
I took my son to John Hodgson in papa torte about 5 years ago...he was awesome! And price was reasonable. 2785804...well that was the number then
Michelle H. replied:
I 2 nd that. John is lovely. http://johnhodgsonorthodontist.co.nz
Bella T. replied:
I saw John Muir (same practice) a couple of times (my paranoia about boys needing braces) and each time he sent me away.... won't waste your money and will give you good advice
Campbell S. replied:
Are all dentists called John? Cause my dentist at Epsom Dental Care is called John as well
Kerin S. replied:
John Burford at Epsom Dental, free consultations for children, less evasive, and about a third the price. Definitely worth getting a quote.
Alison F. replied:
Yes we've just been down that road a month ago. Yes! John Burford at Epsom Dental is AMAZING. Plate being fitted next week, lovely staff and very accommodating. Thoroughly recommend and they have interest free payments.
Suggestions please... I need to find a good orthodontist for maddi as her mouth is overcrowding and got a slight overbite. Does anyone know of any good orthodontists out...
Kelly L. replied:
Chris Hannah wats the name of ur work lol
Toni T. replied:
Dental Care West is meant to be amazing and reasonable in price - by friend took her kids their for overbite and they are letting her pay the work of as well. They won't give you any BS either - straight up with what needs to be done.

Can anyone recommend a good kids orthodontist in Auckland? I'm a bit bamboozled by the selection!
Raewyn D. replied:
Hi Abi. Great article/advert in the latest Tots to Teens Magaziine. Bachmann Orthodontics is currently offering FREE CONSULTATIONS until 30 April. Article is about crowding but I am sure they do the whole range of treatments. Phone 4481128 for appointment for assessment. They are at 51 Corinthian Drive Albany. bachmannorthodontics.co.nz. Maybe worth a looj
Hi, does anyone have a recommendation for a great orthodontist? Kid friendly, preferably local, but will travel if needs be. Thanks
Dayna M. replied:
Dentalcare West
Cathy B. replied:
Definitely Donna at Turner Lim
Annmarie B. replied:
We use James at Dental Care West in Glen Eden.
Lara H. replied:
Turner Lim. I have braces and they do a fabulous job! They are amazing! Donna and Fiona own it and majority of their customers are kids from high school. I couldn't recommend a better place that's local smile emoticon
Mags M. replied:
Donna Lim - they are really good and concious of the price as we. My son had gone to Dental Care West and I thought that they were proper orthadontist and my son was fitted with space maintainers. Found out later and after $1000 that Dental care west a re only trained in some orthadontic but not fully qualified and were told to go to a proper qualified orthadontist. He didnt need space maintainers and as a result there are teath at the front that have no space. My advice - see a proper orthadontist not a dentist who can do some and what to keep taking teeath out.
Dayna M. replied:
Karen, if you would like to know more about dentalcare west, please feel free to email scott@dentalcarewest.co.nz hes always very happy to discuss any questions or queries smile emoticon
Julie F. replied:
Both of my Daughters went to Fiona Turner at Turner Lim - I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Both have had fantastic results through her
Kate D. replied:
My daughter sees Donna Lim at Turner Lim in New Lynn. We have been very impressed with the care so far and Donna has been brilliant with our sensitive girl - giving her a voice and treating her gently and with respect
Ryan J. replied:
Janice Somerville in Newmarket, treated myself and my sister. Top notch and perfect results.
Can anyone recommend an orthodontist (for children)? I've been given a list with 7 in Takapuna but I don't have any reference.
Thanks
Gina P. replied:
Adrian Tan at Dent1 st, Glenfield Rd, just along from Whitecross.
Aviva R. replied:
James Pretorius on sunset avenue He is an orthodontist not a dentist wanna be orthodontist Be careful that you find a qualified orthodontist as many dentists today do orthodontics too but are not as qualified James has done two of my children, one pretty standard the other much more complex case. His work is fantastic! I've never heard anyone complain about his work
Claire M. replied:
James Prestorious, sunset Ave is wonderful. I had my braces done over 10 yrs ago and they still look great. He was always very good with me even when i was nervous or sore.
Jay F. replied:
David Westcott at tog
Kirsten F. replied:
Another vote for James Pretorius. Corrected my teeth 25 yrs ago and is now doing wonders with my daughter's teeth.
Paloma R. replied:
Highly recommend James Pretorious he did my teeth 22 years ago, and will be doing my sons, only heard great things about him and his work and he is properly qualified

Lavinia M. replied:
Swanson dental, on Swanson road out west Auckland! competitive pricing, lovely friendly staff
Clara S. replied:
Kumeu Dental in the main shopping village. Really happy with my progress to date
Emma B. replied:
Hi Lana, my son has braces and he goes to Donna Lim at Turner Lim Orthodontist in New Lynn. I have been really happy with them there, braces aren't off yet but looking great! Just keep in mind there is a difference in an Orthodontist and a dentist who does braces
I've never looked past Green Bay Dental but have heard alot about McIntosh. Sara Rose is in the teeth game too, maybe she can offer advice?
Jen M. replied:
Hey Bonnie, I went to Alpers Dental for my braces, they were awesome! Interest free, no teeth pulling either, they use plates to spread the teeth then realign them (they take holistic approach) it worked so great braces were off after 9 months!!! Awesome people!:) www.alpersdental.co.nz
Does anyone know of a good, reasonably priced orthodontist?
Francee B. replied:
Bit of an oxymoron given the time your kids usually need the work done isn't a very financial time of in family life ... however most of them let you pay it off and it's an investment. Good on you Rachel it's important. My kids went to Karen Brooke in Rothesay Bay.
Gabrielle R. replied:
Sunnynook dentist....I got quite a few quotes for my daughter and this is was the best price and my daughter liked him. Everything is included in the price so no surprises. And he is very flexible with paying it off.
Natalie C. replied:
Tony Bunyan is in Takapuna. He relates really well with the kids and their parents and does an amazing job. Their number is 4898081
Anyone know of a good, reasonably priced orthodontist on the North Shore?
Adele H. replied:
If you want to compare traditional orthodontists to something else you may like to check out Alpers Dental. http://www.alpersdental.co.nz./ All three of my kids went through them and only needed a short time in braces following the use of plates - couldn't recommend them highly enough.
Tara K. replied:
Tusk Dental in Mairangi Bay, we got mitchells braces done there and he was cheaper than others and really really good. We paid a deposit and paid off it monthly. Awesome results in the end.
Anyone recommend an orthodontist for a teenager ?
And what price was it just for the initial consultation too.
Julianne A. replied:
We used Frank Dental in Botany Junction for our teen. He did an amazing job and all in I think we paid about $5,000. She now has perfectly straight teeth. http://www.frankdental.co.nz/
Savannah needs to see an orthodontist. Any recommendations Aucklanders??
Joanne M. replied:
My 9 yr old went to the 1 on Hill rd in Rewa they were pretty good http://www.healthpoint.co.nz/dentistry/orthodontist-practice/ann-oommen-orthodontist-hill-road-orthodontics/
Anyone have recommendations for an orthodontist? $10,000 for braces???!!
Lewis H. replied:
Sounds about right. Cost me nearly $9 k back in 2010. Try McIntosh Dental in Lincoln Road???
Jon C. replied:
Swanson Dental. Had great results at a good price.
Jacqueline R. replied:
Kathryn at Lumino Torbay. Under $ 6000. Would highly recommend.
Marie L. replied:
Definitely recommend Heather Keall at Dental Specialists on Luckens rd. Great payment plan to.
Kerry B. replied:
That's a good price...we paid that price over 16 yrs ago for oldest daughter. Do not go to MCINTOSH along Lincoln Rd...he is not a registered Orthodontist he a Orthodontic which is work on teeth for cosmetic reasons, but he does not inform you of that. Got sacked in for youngest daughter, thousands later, we discover he took wrong teeth out to start with & job was a total mess. The guy is a walker & only cares about $. Max & Beresford are the best. Good luck.
Sue B. replied:
Paul Joicey at Kumeu Dentist is incredible. Nice and local as a bonus.
Sonya C. replied:
Heather Keall is very good, loads of experience.
Alexia W. replied:
My daughter is seeing Jim Pretorius on Sunset Rd, Mairangi Bay. He has been in the industry a long time. Doesn't just slap braces on your child, he looks at the best options, plates to align jawbones properly etc. very happy with him so far. Will end up near $10 k but do you want a cheap job or a good job?
Melissa R. replied:
Heather at Dental Specialists on Luckens Road is great
Georgia C. replied:
Depending on where you want to travel to, I go to Bays Dental in Forrest Hill and it cost me $7200 all inclusive (extractions, appointments, plate, follow ups ect) and they're all ridiculously nice there!
Amanda C. replied:
Turner & Lim in New Lynn. Fabulous clinic and great with kids. Indicated $8-9 k which includes all the visits/checks.
Hey everyone. My daughter is in need of some orthodontic work, possibly a plate or braces. Can anybody recommend a nice, reasonably priced orthodontist on the north...
Nicole W. replied:
Tony Bunyan in Takapuna is fantastic. Won’t do work unless it’s absolutely necessary so no unnecessary costs!
Kerryn D. replied:
Tony Bunyan
Nan A. replied:
Another vote for Tony Bunyan
Kathleen G. replied:
I shopped around for prices. Coast Dental at the top of Browns Bay. Friendly dentist and my daughters teeth are straightening up great $3000 for top teeth.
Toni W. replied:
We used Takapuna Orthodontic Group - Mark Pinkerton was fantastic They gave a fixed price and we could pay it off over the treatment
Abby T. replied:
Tusk Dental in Mairangi Bay is good, I had to have a lot of work done on my teeth before I even got braces including having two teeth pulled, so 8 months pre braces then had braces for around 3 years, all in all it costed $7,000
Alexia W. replied:
Jim Pretorius in Sunset Rd. Been doing it for years, older chap. Really great with the kids. My daughter is nearly 11 and has braces and now blocks/plates to help bring lower jaw forward. Reasonably priced and able to pay off over 2 years. My daughters treatment will be about $10,000 total but that includes top and bottom braces as well as top and bottom blocks to move jaw, and then retainers at the end. Her teeth are moving fast so braces may come off sooner meaning cost goes down. If you need other work done and not just braces then totally recommend you go to Jim. You don’t just want straight teeth if your profile isn’t great etc
Braces for teeth - Can anyone recommend a well priced professional who does braces? Spoke to Warkworth dental today and they said average cost was $6 to $8K (gulp) and...
Sandi R. replied:
I went to Karen Brookes in Rothesay Bay beause she is amazing, but it did cost $8,000. There is an orthodontist in Orewa, some people use, but I dont know how good she is.
Maria S. replied:
Also recommend Mike Black in browns bay - he is excellent
Kat H. replied:
Stephanie Turner Pribicevich, seems like having to go back to Thailand to get them tightened every month or so would be costly? I used Barry Pickens in Glenfield, my brother used someone called Merv in Warkworth, don't know if he is still there. Both did good jobs.
Natasha L. replied:
Keri Keri dental. He is leading in children's teeth (Simon).
Lisa R. replied:
Highly recommend Susan Carpenter in Orewa!! I don't find her that expensive - 6 grand for my girl and well worth it. My two other girls will be going to her as well
Michelle R. replied:
Susan Carpenter in Orewa smile emoticon
Maria M. replied:
Susan Carpenter in Orewa is awesome. Very professional. Braces are expensive - had to pay for twins! They have a payment scheme. Braces need adjusting every 6 weeks so travelling to Thailand might not be an option!
Anyone have a good, reasonably priced orthodontist fairly local who we could take our 12 yr old to.
Jo B. replied:
William has been to Kumeu Dental for his plate and 1 st stage Max and will be going back for braces. They've been great with treatment options and information and payment plans etc. I'd definitely recommend them
Nadine A. replied:
Kumeu Dental, Paul is VERY good. Not cheap but then they never are . . !
Susan V. replied:
Definitely Definitely Heather Keal, Hobsonville. She is an actual Orthodontist. Kumeu Dental are nice but he is a dentist that does Some orthodontics. Heather won't rush you into anything.
Zoe F. replied:
We have been very happy with Paul@Kumeu Dental. He is a qualified orthodontist contrary to rumour, I asked. You can only call yourself an Orthodontist if that's all you specialise in. I would highly recommend him.
Cherie E. replied:
Heather Keal was wonderful - when another 'chain group' dentist suggested $thousands for treatment for ms 7, Heather suggested waiting, showed us photos of another child with the same dental problems that required much less work after waiting a few years. I think we're supposed to go back when she's 9 or 10.
Susan V. replied:
Ditto Cherie. I was told by 'another dentist ' to hurry up but she said wait because if you do it too early it drags on.
