Why would one go with old-fashioned aluminium (R=0.26) windows nowadays? We've got UPVC windows a few years back and are super happy with it. But even the highest possible insulation rating (R=0.53) in NZ is below European standard (R=0.58). UPVC not only stops ANY draft it also makes your house so much quieter. The costs will be forgotten very quickly.
