Does anyone know any affordable wedding photographers in the city? I am getting married this coming summer in August and I'm starting the search for Wedding...

It is 100% you get what you pay for!! This is not something you want to skimp on since the pictures are forever. We went with my wifes cousin since she has done weddings in the past. They weren't bad pictures...but definately not worth the $2250 we spent. Some of the photos taken by the guests were better. I was disappointed since I had a friend who was just starting her photography business and she would have charged $1250, and her work is amazing. [Tricia Victoria Photography](http://triciavictoriaphotography.com/) She is now a $3000+ photographer And really it never hurts to ask any company if they have different packages or rates. Does not hurt to ask if they have less expensive less experienced photgraphers. A rookie might be far less expensive. **EDIT**: There is a Bridal Expo on Sunday, it would be great time to ask a lot of photgraphers your questions about it. If you are going to the Expo I will see you there.

Can't recommend anyone, but wanted to share.
I was shocked to see how wedding photography *actually is* a 'get what you pay for' type of industry. Of course there are exceptions, but...
I've seen some really amazing shots from experienced (and hence, expensive) photographers. Shots that really impressed me.
I've also seen some albums that are pure shit from people who don't want to spend over a few hundred, or 'get my aunt' to do it.
What some people don't realize is that the money spent on a really great photographer takes into account how much time they spend to Photoshop the photos after the fact - cropping, color correction, fixing blemishes, removing the drunk uncle from the background of an otherwise really perfect shot of the couple.
They also tend to have much better equipment, and know how to better shoot low light, motion, and a wide variety of situations - here's the most important thing: they know how to do it on the fly. They know when to swap lenses, they know what to have in their bag on their shoulder - so they're not running back and forth. You can tell a truly good photographer from a bad one from just watching them do their job.
When I hear someone spent $6,000 on their photographer, I used to gasp and think they're crazy, but now I just realize the pictures are VERY important to them.
EDIT:
Having said all that - You can absolutely get pretty decent photos for your budget. ASK FOR REFERENCES, and make sure you get a preview of their portfolio, and inquire into their history - how long they've done it, is it full time, how many photographers you'll get, etc. Oh, and nail down if you'll get all the digitals, and how many prints you get.

One thing to keep in mind with whoever you go with at that price range, make sure they have a contract to sign so you're both on the same terms.

I had a bad experience with a "friend of a friend" budget photographer. Everything was horrid. The photographers were complete amateurs, the locations they chose were poor, the poses were stupid, the lighting was bad, etc. I'm sure you can get something good for that price range, but do not rely on word of mouth. Ask to see some proofs, a portfolio, something.
Twice_Knightley replied:
There are thousands of people in the city with $2500 cameras that will happily charge you $1500 for taking pictures, these aren't real photographers. The pros offer way better quality. Try negotiating on price (seriously, they may do it for way less!) And if they cant/won't drop price, ask them if they can make a recommendation more in your budget. These people are often very connected to each other and willing to make recommendations.

My dad has been a wedding photographer for 30 years so I have grown up around the industry and seen how it has changed and grown, and not necessarily for the better. I have to echo what everyone else says - you get what you pay for. There are some photographers who with insanely inflated prices in my opinion ($6-10 k or up), but paying $3000 is perfectly reasonable.
