Sisters, do you have any good shoe recommendations? I leave for the DR in August and have had trouble finding durable shoes that go with a skirt. Thanks!
Laurel H. replied:
Mary Janes by Dr Martens. They're the BEST! I walked, biked, and forded flooded streets in those things, and I still have them, eleven years later!
The best shoes I had, I bought in the DR. My first pair from the US...what a joke. But you can get some good ones there. My favorite pair had what must have been a 3 inch sole. I could practically wade through water with them. Best of luck Sophia Shaw! The DR is amazing!
Holly O. replied:
Keens, Doc Martin or Birkenstocks. Forget about being cute with a skirt or dress, your days of being cute are gone until about a month after you get home. Go for comfortable and durable. The DR is amazing, I have yet to hear anyone talk about a mission that was better than mine!
Stacy E. replied:
Have you received any council on wearing or not wearing nylons or socks? That may determine which shoes you wear. We were not allowed nylons because of the increased risk of yeast infections due to the high humidity. You will be walking through jungle and pot holed streets. The thick soles is a definite bonus. It will rain . A. LOT. We wore open toed sandals, and Dr. Martens lasted really well.
