Psychiatrists are the ones who prescribe meds, it's better to stay off meds, it never did anything for me(only thing it gave me were back pains), also don't go to any government medical colleges, it's cheap but they're unpleasant and makes you feel more like a worthless piece of shit(from experience).

Psychologist can't prescribe medicines, only Psychiatrist can. If you think therapy and counselling will help, consult a psychologist. If you think it's much more serious and also can be more than a depression consult a psychiatrist. They are more of an expert to identify the exact problem and prescribe medication.

If that doesn't work, there are online services such as [betterhelp.com](https://betterhelp.com) that has video counselling. It's a monthly fee that can be expensive, especially for an Indian Salary, but I think you get a month free if you sign up

SH Hospital, Paynkulam, Thodupuzha (3 Hrs from Cochin) http://www.shhospitalpaynkulam.com They don't give loads of medicine. Psychologists talk to the patient for hours before prescribing medicines. I know because I was there under treatment by Dr. Maggi Mathew and Psychologist (Dr. Bins George)

Psychologists generally use different methods to get to know and help in solving clients' problems. They may involve problem-solving, providing support and guidance, identifying unhelpful emotions etc. You can try online counselling if convenience is a factor. Private and online counselling is available at [eYogi.in](http://www.eyogi.in/)
Does anyone know of a good psychologist / counsellor in bangalore? Please suggest if you heard from real people or have visited him / her yourself. Not "internet people"...

I had 5 sessions with Rachna Muralidhar at Athoz Center in Indira Nagar. Her therapy was based on mindfulness and ACT, I thought she was good. But after that I felt like I should give CBT a shot. There is this book which I've been using for a while: [Feeling good: The new mood therapy](https://www.amazon.in/Feeling-Good-New-Mood-Therapy-ebook/dp/B009UW5X4C?ie=UTF8&btkr=1&ref_=dp-kindle-redirect). Its been helping a lot. And its been reducing the symptoms quite quickly. Apparently some people have done clinical trials and found that this book helps like some 70% of depressed patients or something like that (Although I haven't elaborately studied about this research). The author's mentor is a guy who's called the "father of cognitive therapy".

I would definitely advice you to steer clear of Athoz counseling center in Indiranagar. Horrible counseling! It's more like a college class where she will tell you about a topic irrespective of what your problems are. Like you are facing xyz situations and you go to them. To hell with those situations they will lecture about a subject and sessions over. If it solves your problem then fine else better luck next session. This isn't what psychology or counseling is about at all. It's just a money making business. I'll tell you the first indication of their horrible services? Find out their pricing. They favor paying 3-4 sessions in advance else you'll end up paying a fortune.

There's a place called Banjaara Academy in RT Nagar. I highly recommend that place! It is such an open and a relaxing atmosphere.

I would recommend Dr Satish Ramaiah from People Tree hospital. That guy is a genius. He breaks down your problems brick by brick for you to see how your perception works. Very very detailed guy. I would travel almost 15 km every week to meet him. Although mine wasn't related to depression but he is incredible.
I am looking for a psychologist to work with me on an interesting project in Digital Space. Please drop me a note if you want to know more or to find synergy.
Hi, is there any psychologist or psychiatrist in Bangalore who gives counseling without medicines? I want to know the clinic if there are any. Thank you.
