I need/want to learn more phrases. Is there a massive list somewhere? If not, perhaps we should build one? I'd also be interested in the transcript of any good taxi...
Patrick K. replied:
Thanks for the comments guys. Brett: excellent, thanks. Would be nice to have a massive phrase list that people can add to. I know we can attempt to produce phrases ourselves, which I do a lot, but the problem I've been having is that people don't correct you, so I start using it incorrectly. It is frustrating. Would anyone else be interested in contributing/learning from a list of such? I made a wiki page here to get started: http://underasia.com/wiki/index.php/Thai_phrases Also Brett, would you mind if I copied the list over? Thanks again.

Paiboon Publishing has a Thai phrasebook 'app' that is available for iPhones, Android devices, and Kindle tablets. It is called 'Survival Thai for English speakers'. Kru Mod has a lesson on taking a taxi: http://learnthaiwithmod.com/2013/09/video-taking-a-taxi/

Oliver Pludra: Fair comment about the Oriental, BUT what many really overlook is that the food is not superexpensive there. If you really start with bottles and bottles of wine...YES. But I had lots of business dinners there, that were not cheap (admittedly) but also did not break the bank (especially if you compare it to the other hotels mentioned in this thread). Plus, it is still a place, people heard about and tend to remember vividly (may it be justified or not) and has a special vibe to it (and probably the most awesome flowers in the hotel lobby).

Hi. Does anyone have any contact numbers of recommended taxi firms for Pattaya to Bangkok journey tomorrow? Thanks loads in advance :)
Robert H. replied:
A better option than Ekamai is to go with Bell Travel. This is the service package holidays use, it's not much more expensive, but they come and pick you up in a mini bus - take you to the VIP bus on the Bangna/Trat highway depot - take you to Pattaya - then drop you at your hotel or wherever you want by mini bus again. Much better than sitting next to a sweaty loony all the way. http://www.belltravelservice.com/pages/PageHome.aspx
