southern IL purchasing So, I turned 21 recently and I want to buy a handgun. I renewed my FOID card- currently waiting on the new one to be sent here after an address...

I like Ron and Joe's in O'fallon. I've bought my Kel Tec sub 2000 from there. Pretty straightforward place. Across the river, Mid America Arms is a really nice gun shop. I've never purchased a firearm from them, but bought my silicone concealment holster and some magazines. Great service, no attitude (and right next door to the nicest indoor range/BBQ joint combo in the area: STL Sharpshooters).

I would say Trojan Firearms in Troy. They were really good. Nice owners. Low FFL transfer fees and good prices on a lot of used firearms. But, Sadly the main owner passed away a couple years ago and his wife retired the business at the end of the year. Also greetings from a fellow Madison County resident.

Depending on what you wanting I've been purchasing from Familyfirearms.com very very fast shipping.
Last rifle I purchased from them had a new FFL I go to they didn't have it. I called my FFL he sent it to them via email and they shipped out same day 2 day shipping. They have great shipping rates if it's not free. It will show if it's located in their main stores or if it ships from distributors. Order firearm at 9 am got their FFL email called my FFL he sent it immediately to them at 10am got tracking info at 1130 am. They are super quick. Like I said just depends if they have it at their store. Don't hesitate to call them if you have questions either they are very friendly.
Edit: no CC fees

If you buy a hand gun in MO, you can’t take possession of it from the seller in MO. It is going to have to be transferred to an FFL in IL.

https://grabagun.com/ Always has a great selection and very good prices. And a very good reputation.

Piasa Armory in Alton and STS armory in Pontoon Beach are both really good local gun stores in Madison County. I've bought from STS and they always have good prices. I've priced them against out of state purchases and they are within 10 bucks (usually a transfer fee ends up costing more). Is there a specific handgun you are looking to purchase?

Sams pawn shop in Alton. Good selection, they can get just about whatever, and Cory is a good guy. Decent prices.

It will have to go ffl to ffl for out of state, so you will still have to pay a transfer fee so might as well look online

Piasa Armory in Alton does transfers for $20. Find what you want on gunbroker or gun.deals and have it shipped there. The owner Scott is a very nice guy and very easy to work with.
