You could always hit up ikea in Houston or have stuff mailed. I managed a $450~ Ashley sofa from American Factory Direct

I would recommend a day trip to Houston to the Ikea there. The only other places I've seen that carry that style are Z Gallerie (awful, awful, awful corporate customer service) and Malouf furniture (higher end).

If you're not looking to invest, then you should routinely hit up the thrift stores in the area - America's Thrift, St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Army, Connections for Life. Next you've got consignment furniture shops like CORT. Don't ever rent, but you can find stuff that's been repo'd that they're selling for cheap. There are also lots furniture stores that have low-end stuff. Just take a couple hours of time and visit the stores. You'll find something. Finally, hit up garage sales and estate sales. They're usually Friday and Saturday mornings, so get there early and you can find some good stuff on the cheap.

I don't know about modern but Big Lots on Siegen or Florida has some pretty reasonably priced furniture. Not sure about the quality but it is fairly cheap.

VWatts in Livingston is good. They deliver and anytime I've had issues with anything I've gotten with them they will come out and repair it.

There aren't a lot of good sources in BR for cheap furniture... Target, maybe, Big Lots? I like World Market, though it's not super cheap. I've had good experiences with ordering online through Wayfair - I think delivery is usually free and they have pretty much any kind of furniture you could imagine in any price range. Might be worth checking out:) Good luck with your move!

I shopped around quite a bit and thought Ashley was the best for price and decent quality. They'll sometimes have deals on floor models they are trying to get rid of.
