I have some questions about maccabi. I tried calling and they said no one speaks English there right now. Does anyone know how much a house call is? Also, do you need a...
Sol G. replied:
1) If your general care Dr. is on vacation, the *3555 has a list of doctors that are covering him, and when you call for an appointment, they can tell you who the replacement is. You won't always get someone in the same clinic, but they try to have replacements that are close by. 2) Bikur Rofeh is privately owned, but can give referrals to the ER, which are honored by Maccabi. Otherwise, you can't get money back. The Maccabi Emergency Care Clinic at K. Hamemshala, 2nd floor, is open till late, Fridays and Saturdays, costs 82 NIS, and they can perform most diagnosis, and referrals to ER as required. If you have private health insurance, most policies have their doctors that make the house calls between 25-85 NIS, or you can request to consult with a Dr on the phone for free, and they'll fax over the ER referral, if necessary. 3) ER Soroka - If you can avoid it - don't go! If you really need to, the staff is professional, but you'll have to wait a long time. **** If you're still not sure or have other questions, feel free to PM me, I'd love to help, if I can. ****
Reesa S. replied:
There is an 'Emergency Care Facility' at Maccabi that you can use for free and without a referral. However, it is not open 24/7. I think it's only open when Maccabi is open. It is, however, much faster than the Hospital. Can't guarantee that the Dr. will speak English or that s/he will even be pleasant, but the option is there.

I go to Dr. Marina Gamar at the Clalit on Wingate. She is WONDERFUL, and I have such a close relationship with her (I've injured my back, and she's been so helpful and supportive). However, she does not speak English. She will understand here and there words that you say if they are connected to the medical field. I started going to her when I barely spoke Hebrew, and we've always managed. I absolutely adore her!
