Hi! Does anyone have pet advice for me? I just adopted a cat and I'm wondering where's best to get some essential supplies and food. Also, I'm clueless about the whole...
Megan T. replied:
Chana is on point! Exactly what I wanted to suggest. The Zoo Store is amazing - such great people with huge hearts for pets. And Dr. Sabina is the best option for vet in your area with regard to price and service.
Nava W. replied:
I went to Dr. Sabina and had a great experience. Thank you for the tip! She recommended getting polydane. Does anyone know if there's a store other than superpharm that sells it?
Adam B. replied:

Jesse L. replied:
Here is the link to the Facebook SPCA group-- it's confusing because it's called "animal shelter". Their address is Yehoshua Hatsoref 7. They are a bit tricky to find but if you call them they can help. Their number is 08-6238118. Here is their FB group link: https://www.facebook.com/SPCABeerSheva/. I took in a hurt stray cat and they charged me 90NIS for an exam and 20NIS for some medicine. The price is a little higher for a non-stray animal, but I think they give discounts if you are adopting a stray cat, so make sure to mention that if you are.

Can anyone recommend a good, relatively well priced Vet (does not have to be english speaking)?
Also, Is there a 24 hour animal hospital in the area? I feel like this...
Megan T. replied:
Dr. Savina in gimel, hands down. Gives discounts to students and does top-notch work. Wouldn't trust my pup with anyone else. 050-7668189 located at Hana Sanesh 16.
Orsolya I. replied:

Ok guys my Aliyah is getting so close! and I am trying to make the transition for my cat as easy as possible. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what kind of cat...
Tina R. replied:
First of all "welcome". I also made aliya with my cat (from Holland, and a long time ago, she's already in cat heaven) but I have two cats now. The brands of food I can recall that are available here are Science Plan, Pro Plan, Royal Canine, Friskies, Whiskas, Shesir. I don't know what you have in the states and I don't know what would be available in Yeruham. As for a vet, I am not sure there is one in Yeruham. I take mine (and my two dogs) to the veterinary hospital in Be'er Sheva, but they have a clinic in Dimona too. Excellent English speaking staff (Dr. Louis is from South Africa and Dr Richard from England) here is their website. http://www.vethosp.co.il/English
Robin M. replied:
Love Dr. Louie!
Z'ev F. replied:
There is a large list of available including canned & dry cat foods. Depends on where you shop. Brand Names do not guarantee from one market to another. e.g Hellman`s mayo in Israel comes from Europe and is not the same as in USA. You might try, via The Net, looking at the availability of brands in your area viz Israel
Miriam G. replied:
I love this question! You are a very thoughtful human. Never having had a cat in the US, I dont know how to help you compare, but you can really get anything you want here. The hardest transition for our cats is always to Pesach food and back again. I work for AACI. Write to me at Mgreen@aaci.org.il And I can answer more questions about aliyah.
Dear members! I am desperately looking for a cheap and decent veterinarian which also has tooth care for dogs at his clinic. Any recommendations?
David L. replied:
I don't know about tooth care, but Sigal (052-558-5949) gives fair prices and genuine care about your animal. If she doesn't do teeth, I'm sure she knows who does.
Yocheved G. replied:
I have a bit of advice to share with people following this thread, though it's not related to your question: DO NOT give animals human snax! Cookies, cakes, etc rot their teeth. I do dog care/boarding and whenever I have a dog with awful breath I find out that the owner feeds it cookies, cake, chips, etc. Knock it off. The dog's teeth rot, stink, and fall out. Petit Bours are for people, not animals. That junk is filled with sugar, and white flour turns into sugar while it digests. DOUBLE WHAMMY! Animals have no use for the chemical, which is poison to them (it's not ideal for human health either).
Tina R. replied:
Yocheved Golani you are so right! Good to point this out. I've had dogs for the longest time and they never ever get any "human" food. They also had never ever any problems with their teeth. Human food can also be very dangerous for dogs, since their system does not know how to cope with certain ingredients in our food. http://dogtime.com/dog-health/general/5504-bad-foods-for-dogs-list
Fellow Anglos, please post recommendations for a Vet.
