Hey Halifax, does anyone know a good massage therapist that will do direct pay? As in just charge to my insurance without paying? Any tips are much appreciated!

I used to work at a clinic so I might be able to help here.
Whether or not an RMT can direct bill to your insurance company entirely depends on who your insurance company is with. Some companies allow online direct billing with an immediate response to what your coverage is, while others don't. Having explained that, if your insurance company allows for direct billing, most clinics will try to bill for you.
The other thing to consider is your actual coverage. Does your plan cover 100% of massage, or 80%? If it is 100% coverage, is it up to a maximum per visit? For example, even if you are covered 100%, they may say "up to $70 per visit". If that's the case, and the RMT's charges are above that, then there will be a difference you would be responsible to pay regardless.
The other thing to bear in mind, is some insurance companies require that you have a doctor's prescription for massage therapy in order for the visits to be covered. Give them a call and see if this is a requirement. If it is, your insurance company may not allow the direct billing without it in hand.
All of that being said, I know the clinic where I used to work will attempt direct billing for almost any insurance company. They are located downtown Dartmouth, 5 mins from MacDonald bridge with ample parking. If you'd like the clinic name, pm me.

It's the insurance not the provider that determines direct pay.

Not all insurance companies have a direct pay option, and not all RMTs will direct pay. I know Blue Cross is commonly direct-bill. I haven't found anywhere that direct bills for SunLife or ManuLife. Who is your insurance plan through?

I go to Massage Addict on Main in Dartmouth, but they have multiple locations. I pay them $10 after they bill it to insurance (my insurance covers 85%).

Massage Experts will direct bill both Blue Cross and Great West Life. However, you can always check with you insurance provider to get a list of places registered with them to direct bill.

It also depends on your insurance. You should just call a few places and ask if they do direct billing to your insurance. The place I go to for example, does direct billing, but not with my insurance (I actually couldn't find any place that did mine).

Go see Julie Maynard at [Scroll Tree Osteopathy](http://www.scrolltreeosteopathy.com/) in Clayton Park. She's a registered massage therapist. I've been seeing her for a couple of years and she's helped me overcome a few serious sports injuries. Would highly recommend. (Edit: she does direct billing)

I go to active approach on spring garden and summer, I know they direct bill for manulife and chamber of commerce insurance. I really like this spot because they offer other services like physio, chiropractor, etc.

Can anyone in the HRM recommend a really good masseuse? Lately I've been paying for expensive back rubs.

She's cheaper than most, strong (she's also a firefighter), and the best part, she usually has her 3 bernese mountain therapy dogs in the room! http://www.annettestherapeuticmassage.ca/
