The Thai restaurant in what was formerly the White Swan pub on the river is excellent. My brother-in-law is a chef and on a recent visit, he enjoyed the whole experience. Lovely atmosphere & haven't ever had a bad meal there. Manager doesn't respond particularly well to complaints or criticism but I guess he doesn't have to deal with it too often http://bangkoklounge.com/shefford/

Just a couple of miles away at the Green Man in Clophill is an excellent fine dining Italian restaurant. I normally think of Italian as Pizza and Pasta but this is very different. We visited recently as a party of four. We all ordered something different for each course and not one of us were disappointed. The most used exclamation was mmmmmm . http://greenmanrestaurant.co.uk/

Slightly further afield but still within 5 miles is the http://www.whitehartflitton.co.uk/. Friendly hosts, excellent food and service

If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant, consider http://www.sthelenarestaurant.co.uk/ There is a set price menu with extra charges for more expensive items. Food, service and ambiance are excellent and if you are so inclined you can order a £2000 bottle of port. It looks and feels amazing over the Christmas period. You will need to book but you can ask to be put on the cancellation list and they will contact you if space becomes available.

A previously derelict pub in Maulden has recently been renovated and reopened and although I haven't been, I have heard very good reports from discerning friends of http://thegeorgemaulden.com/#welcome

Slightly further afield is Ampthill. A gorgeous market town with a Waitrose http://www.waitrose.com/bf_home/bf/722.html and many individual and quirky shops. Clapham Road surgery is ok now the whole fiasco over the old Landsdowne Surgery has calmed down. Can usually get an in & out appointment on the same day but not a doctor or time of your choice. Usually a two week wait to see regular gp.

Putnoe Health Centre contract is up for renewal. I left there & changed to Pemberley because I was having so many problems there. Different people have different experiences...I’m just SO pleased I was with Pemberley when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer nearly 2 years ago. They have all been fantastic ..Partners, GP trainees & Locums. I suppose it helps that they are a Teaching Practice.

Hi Esther, I moved to Pemberley Surgery from Goldington Road a year or two ago, I can't praise them enough, totally different experience! I noted the other day they are taking new patients xx
David C. replied:
I think that 2 Goldington Rd Surgery is the best one in Bedford, also close to the Castle Rd area, they also have a satellite Surgery on Church Lane as well.
Mel S. replied:
Definitely Pemberley Surgery...again, like Joanne, I have been a patient there since birth. If they are taking new patients I would get in quick!

Many gp are not accepting new patients in this area I registered at de Paris surgery

It’s a real problem in this area getting into one I have been trying for several years. If you go by the NHS website; http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/Bedford/Results/4/-0.463/52.134/4/1453?distance=25 they all have spaces but when you actually ring they say they are full and try again in a few months - Goldington just recommended the nearest to me was try Putnoe!!
Can you recommend any doctors surgeries in Kempston please? Not long moved here and need to register with a new GP, preferably a good one where you don't wait 2/3 weeks...
