Hello, everyone. I'll be arriving in Beijing this Monday for a two year stay. I'm considering the Wangjing area of Beijing due to its close proximity to my job. Does...

One of my favorite parks that involves a good hike is Fragrant Hills on the Northwest side of the city. Wangjing is a good proximity to other expats, as we tend to congregate in Sanlitun, which isn't far by subway. In my opinion it's best to live close to your work since subways are really crowded, especially during rush hour. I personally ride my bike to work and love it. Welcome to Beijing!

Internations also runs expat networking meetups in many cities... including Beijing.... http://www.internations.org/beijing-expats

Cool area, but mostly business. I Used to shop at walmart there when I stayed 3 miles east of the area. It's not terribly far from http://www.798 district.com/ in Dashanzi area.
Michael W. replied:
Regarding the American phone issue: get yourself a SIM card from China Unicom, their network is quite similar to European / American networks. China Mobile, on the other hand, uses a very different standard, which Western cell phones can't handle.
Mark O. replied:
Michael, thanks for the clarification on the phone issue. Yep, I was with China Mobile...so next time I'll go with China Unicom.
Jacob M. replied:
Victoria Parr, that would be fantastic. I get into Beijing Monday at 3 pm. Maybe something towards the end of the week, or the weekend. Thanks for the invite.

There is a place next to four corners bar by houhai lake that has macaroni and cheese balls. I think the restaurant is called "Balls." Lots of meatballs and testicle related jokes.
What is the best foreign restaurant that you know in Beijing ?
Clarissa D. replied:
