Make sure they seal and insulate the duck work make sure you get a air handler with a emc blower motor and a min 16 seer ac. Since it's ac only put the vents on ceiling or wall as high as possible and a good system will have one return for one vent in every room a lot of contractors like to put one big return or one under sized i seen to many under sized return's. Read the instructions get to know the system a lot of contractors again will do stuff that will void the warranty example the direction's said do not use a breaker over 25 amps. The contactor wanted to use a 30 amp breaker that void's the warranty they don't make a 25 amp 240 volt breaker so i used a 20 amp breaker no problem's at all been going strong for 3 years. Keep the flex runs short as possible and not a lot of bends it will affect the air flow. Also install a hard start capacitor it can't hurt i put them in every new system and old.

I'm curious, why are you not interested in a ductless mini split unit?

I don't know if they're currently accepting new residential customers, but Victory HVAC in Bellingham is a great local company. They service all of RI except for Jamestown. They do all of their own duct fabrication as well. http://www.victoryhvac.com/

Gem Plumbing. they're actually really competitive price-wise and they have a really good HVAC team. they custom build your ductwork too so you're not just getting a guy that's assembling stuff on the back of his truck.
