Help me buy a bike in Berlin Hi,
Moving to Berlin in a few weeks and unfortunately leaving my bike behind. Can you recommend some bike shops? Both large retailers and...

Hey there! For this price range I would check at https://shop.zweirad-stadler.de It’s got a huge selection and the price range is also massive. You can also try it there. Cube and Bulls are two very popular bike brands in Germany and they offer gravel bikes. Hope this helped!

For 600 and wanting a gravel bike you will probably get the most bang for your buck buying used. ebaykleinanziege is the website to search.
Otherwise I would suggest the online shop for Goldsprint – maybe they have like a Marin or something with Claris/Sora in that price range. Decathlon is also an option – if you don't have any snobbishness about the brand, then you can get something with much nicer components than basically any other brands in that price range. Or find an online shop with Fujis or maybe aluminum Rondos – I think both have alu options in that kinda price. I've seen some "Octane One" brand bikes floating around, I think they have steel gravel options in the sub 1000 range, but no experience riding any.
I built a very nice gravel single-speed bike for a friend last year on that budget – but for 150 more it could be geared. That's also an option if you're handy: get a used steel frame, buy some factory wheels someone is taking off a high-end bike (I paid 150 to some guy on ebayklein and the wheels were super nice), then order the other bits online.

you can get a new triban rc500 in decathlon, it is defined as a road bike, however there is plenty of space for a thicker tire and the position of a rider is not so agressive

600€ for a very good gravel is not enough but if you are ok for an "entry level" there is still some things available new.
\-single speed gravel bike you can have this [https://www.bike-mailorder.com/octane-one-kode-single-speed-commuter-28-zoll-black](https://www.bike-mailorder.com/octane-one-kode-single-speed-commuter-28-zoll-black)
\- decathlon triban grvl 120 is quite OK but with corona you might have to wait until they get more bikes. [https://www.decathlon.de/p/rennrad-gravelbike-triban-grvl-120-herren/\_/R-p-312397](https://www.decathlon.de/p/rennrad-gravelbike-triban-grvl-120-herren/_/R-p-312397)
\-super cheap option but quite fun to drive ( I did) you also have Triban RC 100. with the money saved you can upgrade with some better components and also buy a good lock - quite useful in Berlin! [eBay Kleinanzeigen](https://m.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeigen/berlin/fahrrad/c0-l3331) is the equivalent to Gumtree here in Germany. I've bought a few bikes and loads of bike parts off there in the past (as well as all sorts of other used goods).

Your 600€ bike won't last long here, be careful!
I did the same as you, moved here without my fancy bike (worth more than 1K)
But when I arrived in the city and looked at all the bikes, I was relieved I didn't have mine!
It seems like a lot of bikes are getting stolen here so I'd give you two/three advices:
- find a second hand bike from eBay Kleinanzeigen. Looking in the morning and spamming the offers will get you your dream bike quite rapidly. Don't spend more than 200 on it, you'd probably have to spend some cash on it quite rapidly.
- gravels are cool, but definitely useless here in flat Berlin. If you want comfort and speed, I'd go for a single speed. Those bikes are as fast as they're light and they're perfect for Berlin roads and surroundings
- don't be cheap with the lock! Take a 'U shaped' one, and make sure you always lock your frame to something else, will reduces by 99% the chances of bad luck ;)

It is no Longer Topanga Creek Bicycles. It is now Topanga Creek Outfitters. Same store and Chris still owns it, though. They are focused on more than just bicycles, these days.
Can anyone recommend a good bicycle repair shop in Berlin? Looking for a bicycle repair shop in Mitte preferably with reasonable prices, any recommendations?
bbbberlin replied:
I've used Zweitrad before; not cheap but also not outrageously expensive – middle of the road, but its really solid. Bilingual. I recommend Goldsprint as a shop, but its Treptow, so not your area.
rose_des_vents replied:
I know [one near Gesundbrunnen](http://www.littlejohnbikes.de/startseite.html) that is very good and [one in Weissensee](http://www.velostat.de/) that's small but absolutely trustworthy.

Bike flat tire repair cost Hi guys,

significantotter1 replied:
It's really easy to fix one yourself, check out some youtube tutorials, and the parts are pretty cheap (around 6 euro if I recall correctly). Otherwise I can really recommend Kubi's Bike Shop close to Schlesisches Tor but they only speak German.
AngusMagee replied:
Fixing a tire is pretty easy-agreed. However, there are a few tricks one needs to know. Last time I did it I got the new inner tube twisted somehow and the damn thing exploded on me when I inflated it at the bike shop with a compressed air pump. If you do fix it yourself, watch several youtube videos and take it slow. I was okay but the damn tire exploding nearly gave me a heart attack.
namembal replied:
It probably is the tube that has gone kaputt. Most places will charge 15 bucks for a new one including labour. You shouldn't be paying anything more though.
StupidPlibbi replied:
Shell out the extra cash for Schwalbe Unplattbar tyres, if you can't fix a flat yourself the repairs can be rather costly and unplattbar will basically wear down before they get punctured.
itrex replied:
I changed my tire for 12€ in a bike shop in Warschauer Straße, just in front of Kaisers
Ornshrn replied:
Thank you all for your recommendations. I guess I have to learn and fix it by myself :)
alper replied:
Most serious shops won't even do this. There's the shop off Kotti called Ali Bikefix which is pretty good (and will do it).
