Just a suggestion, have you checked Military.com. Sometimes they have good info on current programs. In any event, I remember those services being available when I was on active duty (I was in charge of ACS -Army Community Services- and Alcohol/Drug Counseling in 2ID) Family counseling was handled in ACS. Times have changed but I would at least check there.

The VA will not see Active Duty. That is what the Army hospital system is for. The VA will see reserve and guard.

I am a spouse that is currently in marriage counseling with my husband at our local Vet Center free of cost. What I can not get is individual counseling for myself. I have to get that at a civilian organization.

I would go ahead and check with your local Vet Center- the worst that will happen is they tell you no, but 10-1 they will be able to refer you to someone that does take military spouses, if not for free, on a sliding scale fee basis. I know as a spouse, I was able to be seen while my husband was still deployed- but then again I knew a lot of the people that worked up there through my FRG activities.

The VA paid in full for both me and husband to attend Charlie Norwood Marriage counseling retreat for a weekend.

Military hospitals also have mental health counseling for spouses. Fort Huachuca has a great counselor here. She sees anyone with a military ID card.

I can tell you that you DON'T Want to go to the Medstar health providers in Chevy Chase. I went there once about three years ago based on a reddit suggestion, my doctor not only took over 40 minutes to see me, I just found her incredibly rude and patronizing. It made seeing my pediatrician for way too long not such a bad idea after all even though he never wore gloves (even when giving shots.)

We love love LOVE Shady Grove Pediatrics on Shady Grove Road (Rockville/G'burg line). Three female pediatricians, all phenomenal. You see the same one for your regular appointments and sick visits you may see any of the three. No idea if they take United insurance though.

Dr Ashfaq Ahmed at Saudi German or Medcare near Safa park (I think he practices at both). He specializes in sports injuries. What I liked about him was that he didn't push me to get a surgery right away, asked me if I wanted to get back to sports or anything as soon as possible, I said no, he said go for physiotherapy. Apart from that from what I know from my brief interaction with him, a nice guy as well.. was willing to listen and was sympathetic. P.S I had meniscus tear and minor acl tear on my right knee from trying to push myself too hard at the gym.

Diversified integrated sports clinic (DISC) and Up and running medical centre

Had years of shoulder trouble and physios back home diagnosed it as bursitis. Got an injection in it, short term relief, so the pain cane back. They couldn't find/fix the root cause. Moved here and pain was unbearable so went to see Dr Kazim at Orthosport Medical (googled him, reviews were positive). He suggested it was something else, and recommended 4 - 6 weeks of targeted Physio. Now I'm pain free. Highly recommend having a consultation with him.

Went to AZHD for a broken bone. Went to AHD for back pain. I assume you would see the same doctor(s) for assessment. Happy so far with the treatment. Therapy would be what you need (I assume), but you need the doctor to assess/prescribe the PT if needed. Bones can be seen on X-Rays, but as you mentioned the soft tissue injuries typically are MRIs. I have always hear avoid the shots. Although it provide instant results, it can (1) make things worse by causing damage and (2) relieve the pain allowing you to cause further damage without realizing it.

I dislocated my shoulder a couple years ago and went to soooo many doctors to relieve the pain, all idiots. One doctor made a decision to operate off of an unclear mri scan... I went home, saw a couple of doctors and got it sorted there. If you can, just get it sorted when you go home. Doctors here were charging me over 600 dirhams for consultation and making diagnoses and treatment plans based on incorrect images. I can recommend someone for physio if you want

One of the best places to search is ILADS. ILADS.org is the Intenational Lyme Disease Society. They strongly suggest, based on research, very different treatment/diagnostic protocols than IDSA (Infectious Disease Society) and The CDC. IDSA and the CDC work AGAINST funding for better diagnostic testing and treatment. Lots of debate as to why, but NO debate that they are. (Except from them). You can review their different approaches on line.
