Lots of good names suggested here. I'm a family law mediator. She'll have to try mediation first for children's issues. Can PM me via my page Annabel Varvel & Associates Family Mediators if she/you want more info re mediation or legal referrals. Best to resolve without too much lawyer help (due to costs) but good legal advice is important.

4BC radio hold a family law segment once a week with Katrina Pollycoronis (sp) who now goes under her married name (cannot recall). Often on air you can ask for general advice and her first session is free.
Caroline L. replied:
Bruce Scott at Parker family law.
Meredith F. replied:
call Bruce Doyle at Doyle Keyworth and Harris in Brisbane City. Bruce used to be the president of the Law Society in Brisbane and is an outstanding family lawyer - I give him my unreserved recommendation. The ' Keyworth' is a woman who specialises and excels in child custody. Tell them that you were recommended to them by Meredith Fraser, the christian feminist.

Penelope Richards have a look at this list. And I would recommend doing what one person said about requesting a seperate representative lawyer for the child themselves at court as soon as you are there next. They will focus in the kid and soon work out what you know who is really like.:)
Rebecca D. replied:
I had Kristy Fuge from Murdoch lawyers. Cannot speak highly enough of her. She knows her stuff and is realistic, efficient and excellent.

Recommendations for Divorce Lawyer/Legal advice? I’m trying to begin the process of getting a divorce, one that will most likely not be uncontested or amicable. We are...
bloodraven42 replied:
I’m assuming it’s Jefferson given you’re posting here. If you absolutely can’t afford it, there’s a group of volunteer lawyers who meet at the Domestic Relations courthouse from 8:30 to 12:00 on Wednesday’s. That’s your best bet, they should at least get you started and pointed in the right direction.
You can get divorced without an attorney, but I gotta say I wouldn’t suggest it, especially if your ex has one. But anyways, you can ask the volunteers about getting court fees waived - they don’t work for the court and can’t (and won’t) don’t it for you, but they’ll be able to tell you how to get that ball rolling and at least attempt to get them waived. I can’t guarantee the advice you’ll get, but I know a few who volunteer up there occasionally and they’re good people.
Edit: For whatever it’s worth, personally I would disregard any specific attorneys suggested here as you don’t know where that suggestion came from. As full disclosure, I also work for a law firm, and one that has a divorce branch, though I’m not in it (unless you count occasionally drafting deeds and pulling title for them, anyways). There’s a lot of us legal employees on here, so some of the recommendations might be more like advertising imo, and people can have very different experiences with the same attorney. Instead ask people you know personally, and call around a bit, see who will give you a consultation, and then from there find out who you’re comfortable with. They can be the greatest divorce attorney in the world but if you think they’re a prick and they don’t like you much either, it’s going to be a miserable and painful trial.

Don't seek legal advice from reddit. Both the Birmingham Bar Association and Alabama State Bar have resources for finding a lawyer. And, as previously mentioned, if you cannot afford a lawyer, the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Project can help.

I used Harris law firm. $500. Didn’t even have to go to court. Important to note: no children. No assets. Uncontested. Was incredibly happy with their service, professionalism, and promptness. They responded to emails within a couple hours every time (not the actual lawyer but the legal aids- but still- great response time if you ask me). $500 included paperwork from lawyer, filing fee to the court, and I had unlimited access via phone and email.
90DayCray replied:
T. Shane Smith or Heather Fann, but there will be a retainer. Call Bham Volunteer Lawyers program to see if they will do a non-contested divorce or have a clinic coming up. They won’t take contested for volunteer.

The only winners in a ugly divorce are the lawyers. I highly recommend both of you watch Divorce Corp and maybe reconsider a fight. I know people who decided to fight over most things and three years later all they to show for it is emotional pain, lawyer debt and no divorce decree. You both have to live and both have a right to be happy. Best of luck.

If you are a man then Delk and Tomlinson out of Montgomery are very highly regarded.
Anyone know of a good (and decently priced) divorce attorney? Message me, please. :)
