Hi I've heard Aytouns butcher shop is to be a tanning studio. Does anyone feel we have enough beauty salons in our town? What are your thoughts?

I'll attempt an answer to the question of a Hub, although it isn't very straightforward one! The community group that originally formed to save the old leisure centre have run some community events this year, including the return of Bonnyrigg Fun Day, and are continuing to develop "Bonnyrigg Hub" as a Development Trust. This Trust is dedicated to finding innovative ways of meeting the community's needs and complementing the work of other groups and organisations. This may at some point involve temporary or more permanent use of a building, such as an empty shop, but our strategy is not predicated on this. In relation to the old Leisure Centre, we formulated a strategy for the building to satisfy the multiple needs of the community identified during extensive consultation. This was recognised as a feasible plan but the council weren't prepared to transfer the building to the community. Officially they are now "exploring the feasibility" of accommodating Bright Sparks in some of the building. Whilst we would have preferred to incorporate them into our "group of groups", we are pleased that the council are supporting such a valuable organisation. The future for the larger part of the building remains uncertain, but we are hopeful that some of the uses we suggested (such as a soft play and a cafe) will be included to ensure the wider community can be included.
