Places to get wisdom teeth removed I'm looking for an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed. Does anyone have suggestions for a 23 y/o still on parent's insurance...
indistinctcolor replied:
You need to find surgeons that accept your insurance. The amount that it'll cost will depend on your coverage.

Do you like and/or trust your dentist? If so, they should give you a good referral to another trusted professional to do the job!
Foxyfox- replied:
You could also check if [Tufts Dental School](http://dental.tufts.edu/patient-care/) will take your insurance. Probably not, but worth a shot. They have regular work like cleanings and whatnot done by people with less experience, but all the big operations are done by advanced students or professional practitioners.

Lawrence Phan DmD, Beacon Street@coolidge corner Perfectionist and used to be faculty at one of the top hospitals. The dental assistant is also fabulous. Oral Surgery, Dr. Nissenbaum, Chestnut Hill. I had a full mouth reconstruction--they got me through it in one piece. Dr. Nissenbaum can get teeth out so easily and pain free it is stunning---like I literally went shopping after. Also I had not a single complication and didn't even require antibiotics---in my case I had to try to avoid them. Much easier when the dentist does great work.

I got my done at tufts dental school but it depends on your insurance and what places will accept them
Umbert_Haramina replied:
As others have said make sure the dentist your choosing takes your insurance but also ask: First if they are in-network, for instance your insurance may cover 80% at an in-network provider but only 50% out of network. Second, ask for a pre-estimate.The pre estimate would probably come after the examine you and determine that it is in fact a wisdom tooth. But if you haven't had an exam in 6 months your insurance probably covers that exam.

I went to [Boston Dental](http://www.bostondental.com) in DTX, Dr. David Chang was the oral surgeon and was great. Prices were average for the area, and actually much cheaper than what my brother paid in the suburbs. The total cost really all depends on your how much your insurance covers, whether or not your teeth are impacted, or if they have erupted or not, and wether or not you want local or general anesthesia. Overall, I really liked Boston Dental, super friendly, clean office, and best part is they're open on Saturdays, close to public transit, and have multiple pharmacies in the area (for when you pick up your meds after surgery.) I went in October, had all four removed under local anesthesia, three erupted, one not, all four impacted. Insurance paid about 60%, I paid around $700 out of pocket. Was in and out in two hours. Longest time was waiting for the novocaine to kick-in, otherwise the rest of the surgery was relatively quick. Also if you don't have a dentist (to get a referral), they are a general density office too, so they can do any consultations, or anything needed before surgery.

One option to look at is the faculty and student clinics at local dental schools. For those without dental insurance, the student clinics especially can be priced well. Yes you are worked on by a student, but they are supervised by faculty. Also, some schools have clinics where the faculty members themselves practice dentistry.
julirocks replied:
It depends on your insurance but I recommend [Copley Oral Surgery](https://copleyoralsurgery.com/). They were super helpful and I think I ended up paying around ~$150 out of pocket.
am17y replied:
I went to Dr. Fine in Brookline. He was fine (pardon the pun) but a total weirdo which made the procedure more interesting, for better or worse. No clue on pricing but your health insurance should cover it for the most part. Also for anyone looking for a dentist out there Dr. Helen Foo on Beacon St is da bomb.
Rabl replied:
I've had great experiences at [Dental Partners of Boston](http://www.dentalpartnersofboston.com/). I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once there, and other than my zombie-shamble through the mall with my wife to get back to our car, the process was entirely smooth.
Lmoneys replied:
I have very severe dental anxiety and just recently had to get all four wisdom teeth removed. I had a wonderful experience at Burlington oral and facial surgery center; it was a luxurious environment and the staff made me feel extremely comfortable. My procedure was performed by Dr. pace who was formerly a navy dentist and was very professional and forthcoming about all the issues relating to the procedure during the initial consult. I would highly recommend seeing if your insurance is excepted there as they turned a dental procedure into a positive experience for the first time in my life. Edit:spelling
baseketball replied:
I went to Boston Oral and Facial Surgery. If your insurance covers general anesthesia, go for it. I had all four removed at once and it was over before I knew it. Stock up on Ben and Jerry's before surgery and you'll be good.

I used Doctor Orden in coolidge corner it was pretty awesome i had to pay some out of pocket but it was because i wanted to be asleep for the procedure. His website is the jawsurgeon.com i think.

Anyone know of a really good oral surgeon that takes payments? Im in desprate need to find someone. I have 5+ teeth that I can no longer stand...
Kyle. It is a 3 hour drive....but I did a lot of research..check www.sanidentalgroup.com. It is across the border from Yuma...but they did fabulous work for me at 1/5 the cost. And they will negotiate on the very low prices up to about 15% if you insist. I saved about $23,000 on my work.
Matt M. replied:
I go to crossroads dentistry here by the house. They setup payment plans and their surgeon is Dr. Mati. Nice guy who knows his shiz. He works around town and is available in different locations. If you need a place to crash after surgery let me know. Usually take a down payment first then smaller payments after.
Megan C. replied:
If you are still looking for suggestions. I go to Dr. Monroe at alameda dental in tempe. I have known him & his family for 15 yrs. If you tell him i told you to go to him he may give you a discount.

Lisa P. replied:
It is very painful! It takes a lot for me to go to the dr.s, got my jaw checked out in February and was told it was the TMJ now dr and the dentist today said it is severe. Been wearing mouth guard for a year just an over the counter one,The medicine to help the pain, Motrin, and daily exercise is not helping at all! And stress isn't helping it! Worried about mason, GI specialist wants to see him now. So another trip into Boston. Really hoping 2014 we can get a little break
does anybody out here have TMJ?? can you recommend an oral surgeon or TMJ specialist in the south shore area???
Nancy B. replied:
I deal with TMJ daily with patients. There are a few oral surgeons that work with it, a chiropractor that we use, and there is the Tufts Clinic in town.
Grr. Went to the walk-in clinic because I thought I might have an infected injury from my toothbrush, but it just turns out that my wisdom teeth are on the move. ...
Any recommendations for an oral surgeon in the Boston area? Nothing like having your top wisdom teeth impacted after your previous one said you'd never have to worry...
