No problem posting this kind of thing here. We LOVE to shop for notions! Here are a couple of ideas of items that I personally would love to see in an advent calendar:
- new seam ripper
- pack of needles (machine or hand --- or both)
- needle threader (we aren't getting any younger, right?)
- rotary blades
- thread in some of the basic colors (neutral, grey, black, navy, red) and/or whatever color she seems to use the most
- new bobbins for her machine (you might need to borrow one to take with you to the shop to compare)
- packets of tea for when she needs a break from sewing for the moment
- a magnetic pin-picker-upper for when she drops them
- a gift card (in any denomination) for her favorite quilt shop
- teensy screwdriver set to help repair machines
- fun buttons or other trim items if she uses them to embellish her quilts
- those iron-on labels that she can personalize with a fabric pen
- permanent fabric pen
- disappearing fabric pen
How's that for starters?
EDIT: OK, maybe that was more than just a few items ...

This is a pretty comprehensive list. I can only think to add batting Sean tape and a pressing cloth for applique. Also, you're a good son. Keep up the good work.

This is a cute little thin that could be very useful - a pincushion ring: https://www.etsy.com/listing/228955546/wool-pincushion-ring-adjustable?ref=cat_gallery_13

TJ Lane has some chatelaine's. They run close to $100 though, so that may be a bit spendy for what you're looking for. In addition to the ideas already mentioned: A fat quarter (you can never have too many) Quilter safety pins - they have a bend to them that makes pin-basting easier An IOU to attend a local quilt show together - there's nothing quite like sharing our hobby with someone we love If she ever ties her quilts, curved needles are wonderful. Also needle grabbers (small circles of rubber that make it easier to grip the needle and yank it through the layers - similar to the rubber disc you use to open jars)

If you're looking for an online quilt shop for a gift card, my shop has an online store as well as a retail shop, and I'd be honored to have a gift card included in your gift. PM me for a discount! :). You're a thoughtful gifter!

There is a whole set of mini acrylic templates, like hexagons, tri-recs, 30-60 and 45 degree angles that would likely fit nicely in an advent calendar pocket.

Wonder Clips and Bobbin Buddies! I totally love mine, and end up picking up more whenever they go on sale at the fabric store.

A couple suggestions I didn't see in the other lists: -Frixion Pens (made to be erasable on paper but the heat from ironing also makes the ink disappear so I like then for sewing) -sewing machine oil/lubricant -quilting themed charm bracelet (I've seen various sewing charms and you could give one per day) -if she designs her own quilt patterns you could get her dry erase grid paper and dry-erase coloured markers to use to plan things out

Hmmm, I suddenly need most of the items mentioned! My contribution is something my sis-in-law got me. I didn't think I'd use it much, but I do. It's called "That Purple Thang". Cool tool.
