Actually Andrea Peper Ward, considering that you're on a slope and concrete is somehow impossible for you as flooring, and you would not prefer hardwoods...I'd suggest using compressed bamboo. It wasn't around during the MCM era, but had it been, it definitely would have been used extensively. It's as hard as oak but is actually a grass material. Bamboo also resists warping better than hardwoods and can come in any colour one chooses. Mix that with the turquoise coloured flooring found in the Wilson Art house, I believe that it's some sort of Linoleum, and your place would prove spectacular. Also check out the Craig Ellwood designed Bobretz House in San Diego for some interior/exterior design ideas and perhaps you could get Tara Taylor to create an MCM oversized piece for your new home. Happy building of your multi-level MCM inspired abode. =)

Marmoleum (it's the original Linolium with a new name) is a lovely product. Thicker than vinyl but can still telepgraph the sub-floor over time. It also needs sealing periodically and can't be used in wet areas. But comes in many lovely colours and textures. Check out http://www.forbo.com/flooring/en-us/products/residential-products/cgnra1
