Does anyone have an allergist to recommend that takes blood levels into consideration and doesn't only rely on skin test results? we see Dr. Lillie at Buffalo Amherst...
Karen J. replied:
Did your son actually react to milk or did you only find out bc of the skin test.. My son reacted to pb and tested pos for egg during the testing he was a 1 blood and skin for egg, he was already tolerating egg with no problems and dr lillie still had us eliminate it. He was 15 months. I am on our THIRD allergist (Dr Rockoff) and my son now has skin and blood tested negative for egg and Dr Rockoff said he would have never eliminated it because if they can eat it that is the ultimate proof of tolerance.
Rebekah K. replied:
We also had problems with Dr. Lillie's office (and I was not too keen on her) a few years ago and switched to Dr. Grabiek who we love. He seems to stay very current in the latest happenings in the allergy field. Karen, my daughter tested neg. via blood and skin test but failed the oral challenge horribly so I completely understand the fear.
Marcie K. replied:
We are doing a food challenge for peanuts on the 16 th. We are doing at Dr Rockoff's, I would never do i alone at home.
Molly H. replied:
We see Dr. Sloan- have only done skin testing 2 x's but blood testing every year. At first they didn't want to give me a script but I ask for one every year because I want to track his levels. We only skin tested 1 time for his most severe allergies dairy and egg. The other skin testing was for all the different types of tree nuts to see which he was allergic to. I think with all doctors you have to research and tell them what you want- I have never had a problem with Dr. Sloan when I approach her this way. I have even given her copies of articles I have read.
Jenny B. replied:
We go to Dr. Lillie too and I have seen Sarah (the PA) You may more luck with her. It seems like she works harder at figuring thing out rather than just "avoiding"
Larry W. replied:
Dr. Rockoff uses blood tests and skin tests in combination
Rachel A. replied:
We also see Dr. Rockoff (well, we saw his PA for our first appointment last year) and they said we'd alternate years for my now 4 year old, so this year we're due for bloodwork since we did skin testing last year. We had previously seen Dr. Sloan/Green and they only did skin testing on her and didn't even want to see her yearly (we were scolded by a PA for coming back a year after the diagnosis/initial test).
Jenny G. replied:
Dr. Lillie told us she wouldn't be testing him again for another 2 years. I just feel like if he could tolerate baked milk products, than he should be having it. It's not like I want to run out and have him eat a milk shake or anything!
