Has anyone here ordered a gun from evike? I've heard lots of stories of ups charging a lot in extra shipping but has it happened to anyone in the area? Need to know,...
Serge B. replied:
Depends on the shipping method. The cheapeast UPS ground Canada doesn't include their crazy expensive brokerage fee. That fee is their "handling" fee. It's based on the order value which is stupid because a 50$ is the same amount of work to clear as a 500$ order with the Carrier Low value importation program (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/courier/lvs-efv/menu-eng.html). Duty is separate from that and is not related to UPS per say. Duty is charged when importing anything that is not manufactured in Canada, USA or Mexico. CBSA doesn't UPS calculates the will calculate the duty and declare it to CBSA and also charge Canadian taxes. You will pay that regardless where you order from unless you get lucky and CBSA overlooks your package but a large package declared to be carrying a "toy gun" is likely to be looked at anyway so you will pay. And then there's that off chance the the CBSA officer seizes it if there is not documentation that explicitly states the guns FPS.

If you have the less expensive UPS ground option (not sure if they offer it when purchasing a gun), you can avoid the brokerage fee from UPS by following these steps: http://trueler.com/2010/11/24/self-clear-shipment-cbsa-avoid-ups-brokerage-fee/ I've done it and saved a lot. The Border Services officer was really nice at the office at the Ottawa Airport, he didn't even charge me any duty (he should have) and only charged federal tax since I live on the Quebec side.

We sent ours to [National Cappucino](http://nationalcappuccino.com/) in Edmonton. I can't remember exactly what the problem was, but repair was about $200 (not including shipping) and we had it back in a week. They were very good to deal with. This was a few years ago and shipping was cheap because Greyhound. But there's a lot of traffic between here and Edmonton, you should be able to arrange transport. I think there's a Rider Express type private bus service as well now.

I'll try to remember and Google this issue to see if anyone else has covered it, I'm good with electronics, but if there's some oddball part that needs to be ordered it's always good to do it in advance. Good to hear you aren't just tossing it and buying something new, too much of that going on these days.

Edmonton/Stoney plain has bike wreckers.... Old Motorcycle shop, in Calgary sometimes has parts, or can get them, but be prepared to pay a premium.

Sean M. replied:
Btw.... a petcock is a simple fuel cut-off device.... unless you are restoring that bike to flawless original, you don't need the one from your specific bike... Fuel line comes in standard diameters, so almost any one will work... That's why old Motorcycle shop has a box of old petcocks, which will not be labeled as to which bike they came from... because pretty much any one with good seals will work...
