Hey guys. I was just told that my OEM tires need replacing. Any recommendations on what to replace them with. I believe good tires are important so want to make sure...

45 k miles on Goodyears is about it. You probably are due. They just don't wear well. The Michelin Defenders will go a legit 80-90 k miles, and perform better.

Ooh so you know, I believe Michelin Defender are great too! They were a bit more expensive and also a bit more hard. I wanted tires that were more quiet than OEM, and Ecopia seem to be a bit more quiet. They also have excellent grip and brake times, etc. Had a good winter traction rating.

If you only got 45,000 miles you might have missed one of my many recommending 45 PSI cold for tire pressure. Now we have gotten past that I did get 60,000 miles on my originals and didn't find out about tire pressure until 19,000 miles otherwise I would have gotten 70,000 at least. Now for the new tires: Michelin Defenders will give you about 5 fewer miles per charge and are noisy. I took them off and sold them at a loss. The next set I went with were the Bridgestone Ecopias. They are quieter than the originals but handling suffers. The sidewalls are very flexible and they seem subject to over steer in the corners approaching loss of control. I could not afford to change again so I still have them. If I had it to do all over again I would go with GM's choice for OEM, the Good Years but of course 45 PSI cold.

I researched on tirerack.com. There are a bunch of choices in the volts tire size.
Dan G. replied:
Michelin Defenders are the way to go, especially if you drive a lot. If you don't drive a lot, they'll just dry out before you can wear them out. Otherwise Id look into any other Michelin or the Bridgestone Ecopia. That seems like a decent tire.

I would put on my Volt whatever is the most efficient tires. I recently asked on gm-volt.com if there were any tires more efficient than the stock OEMs and the consensus was no. I'll need new tires soon as I have 51K miles on my original ones. I'm trying to hold out as long as possible as worn tires are more efficient.
