Lucy G. replied:
Can I direct you to a very good Facebook group of a vet called Chris Pearce who often highlight the issues he finds which other "equine dentists", EDTs and vets have made. I'll let you make your own mind up as to who is doing this most shoddy work, the most damage and taking the most money which they are not qualified to take... so there is an element of value for money here. Your "dentist" might be cheaper but not in the long run if they over rasp the teeth and cause them to die (seen this more times than you could imagine), miss a fractured tooth, miss a decaying tooth, etc... so please think about it carefully. EDTs absolutely have their place and I support and work with good ones, but there is also a place for a good vet with dental experience and interest to be involved too. Use both of you want, they can work together for you. But please do not use an unqualified person - they must be a member of the BAEDT or WWAED!! And they must have insurance otherwise you have nothing to claim on if they mess up! For those who have used vets who are not keen or experienced in teeth, then please use another vet! They should admit if it's not their area of interest and most do recommend a colleague who does this work. Just like you might take you lame horse to someone who likes and sees a lot of lamenesses rather than one who doesn't like that work and concentrates on stud work or something. While most vets on the road are like GPs we all (including human GPs) have strength and weaknesses. It's the way humans are!
Wanted cheap vets, dentists and farriers
£123 - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
I’m looking for recommendations on good but not over priced vets, farriers and dentists...
Tanya L. replied:
I'm unaware if they are the cheapest, but as far as I'm concerned you get what you pay for. Vet - isle of Ely, dentist - Dee Clements Eq DT, and farrier James Hackett although I'm not sure if he covers your area
Angie H. replied:
Would be a bit concerned of I could only afford to have one foot done:/ Sharon Reynolds
Laura K. replied:
When looking for a dentist make sure they are registered http://www.baedt.com/members_5357.html many people advertise services but are not BAEDT members or qualified.
Richard M. replied:
It’s not only the Baedt that is recognised in the UK, the wwaed is also recognised and defra approved http://wwaed.org.uk/wwaed-directory/?fdx_switcher=true
Neve D. replied:
I use Fellowes Farm vet clinic, and Jon Currell as farrier. I pay for quality care and I've not been let down yet!
Laetitia W. replied:
Hi Liz:) In St Ives I used to have Leanne Whitwell DipWcf as a farrier. I found her prices very reasonable and was very pleased with how she shod Frankie and managed to put shoes on that stayed on (considering he's a master at getting them off with most other farriers I've ever used). I'm registered with Cambridge university equine vets, but can't comment yet on quality/price of care since so far I've only used them to do a worm egg count.
Kelly J. replied:

you can talk to the dentist and explain this and your fear and ask the dentist if he can refer you to a dental department at a hospital dont know if one at kings lynn QEH cos they can give you general anaesthetic at hospital.good luckxx

QEH or if you can drive, call Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and ask for Clinic 8, or call Brookfield's dental clinic in Cambridge, 01223 723100 first thing in the morning and ask if you can see them. They book same day for patients who are non-registered, but you might have to keep trying first thing as it's usually busy.
Susan F. replied:
They usually taken out at Day Surgery in hospital.
