The only effective treatment for hydrocephalus in humans is surgical implant of a shunt. Medication cannot control the CSF pressure. I got this info from http://www.pethydro.org/treatment.html

My vet is very experienced with rabbits and should be able to give advice. Dr. Gold at Chadwell Animal Hospital is the best. I don't have an email address, but their phone number is 443-512-8338. http://chadwellanimalhospital.com/

Delia, where do you live? I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I drive 2 - 1 1/2 hours to Guelph for my rabbit. Guelph University teaches veterinary medicine. So the facility has everything needed. Including neurologists. The veterinary universities ar e on the cutting edge of new medications and treatments. I think this is what your Pancake needs. As far a seizure meds. My son went through several neurologists before finding the right doctor and medication to control the seizures. I know it's difficult trying to find the right doctor/vet and meds. Are there any veterinary colleges close to you. Your current vet can track one down for you.

I took my critters to the Animal Clinic in Wadsworth, OH (I don't use them now simply because they are quite far from where I live and I found a suitable critter vet closer). They will see all kinds of animals, and Dr. Gary Riggs is very friendly and v ery knowledgeable person. He isn't always there (I think he comes in once a month), but there are other good vets there. http://www.exoticpetvets.com/ That's their link.
Parsley P. replied:
our vets are also exotics vets and are specialist referral vets and so used to being contacted about other cases - Ask for Iaian Cope at Cambridge Veterinary Group - 01223 249331.

I'm going to throw this out there. .I'm in the UK. My vets are Trinity Vets and they are exotic pet specialists. Mark is extremely knowledgeable about rabbits and is very much recommended by the bunny bunch in the UK. You could look them up on line and just contact them for advice. Also search for Rabbits United online. A great forum and a couple of very experienced people on there may help. I do so feel for you. You love this little guy so much.

The best vets in the area, who offer great service, good prices and who won't turn you away with an injured pet if you haven't any money are Whittlesey vet Cere, Terrington vets David, one in Bury ST Edmunds and one near Boston in Lincs. I have no experience of how the Ely vets perform in an emergency so cannot comment on them.
Pam T. replied:
Ditto for the new vet who I know. She used to be the vet at my practice before leaving to start her own. Vet savers and Medi vet are large American owned companies which put profits first. You go in there with an injured dog and tell them you have no money and see what they say. THAT is how you judge a good vet, not just that they haven't hurt your pet on the rare occasion you take it to them. Whittlesea vet Cere is a true animal lover. I and all her other clients wept buckets when she left. And I speak as someone who has 20 dogs and 20 cats plus ferrets, parrots, reptile who seems to be at the vets on a monthly basis, not just once a year for vaccinations. You CANNOT judge a vet based on the once a year vaccination visit. ANYONE who knows a thing or two about animals and vets will use Cere or David over at Terrington, but your best nearest is Cere. You'll never regret going to her, I promise you. And if you want my experience about Paddons or Vetsavers, PM me and I'll tell you what they both did to my animals and how I ended up reporting them to the RCVS! https://www.facebook.com/whittleseyvets?fref=ts

Do yourself a big favour go to companion care at Ely they are not over priced like the vets in March and are fantastic my dog nearly died last week and a local vet I shall not name for legal purposes missed what was wrong she landed up having surgery at companion care and Ian and Sally Ann who run the place are fantastic

Hi Tracey, we owned a veterinary hospital for almost 10 years whilst living in Spain. We had to other working partners one of which was spanish and also a good friend BUT he really never had the same compassion for animals as our other Argentinian partner who like us was only in the buisness because of our love and passion for all animals ( mine being German shepherds )
Grant Chanter - he's one of the best (Royal seal as did royal Cavalry horses) He put right, the mess that my vet left!!

We use Dee Clements. Lovely lady, kind and patient. As said above mine were traumatised by the vet rushing it and Dee has done a fantastic job with their teeth
Lucy G. replied:
Can I direct you to a very good Facebook group of a vet called Chris Pearce who often highlight the issues he finds which other "equine dentists", EDTs and vets have made. I'll let you make your own mind up as to who is doing this most shoddy work, the most damage and taking the most money which they are not qualified to take... so there is an element of value for money here. Your "dentist" might be cheaper but not in the long run if they over rasp the teeth and cause them to die (seen this more times than you could imagine), miss a fractured tooth, miss a decaying tooth, etc... so please think about it carefully. EDTs absolutely have their place and I support and work with good ones, but there is also a place for a good vet with dental experience and interest to be involved too. Use both of you want, they can work together for you. But please do not use an unqualified person - they must be a member of the BAEDT or WWAED!! And they must have insurance otherwise you have nothing to claim on if they mess up! For those who have used vets who are not keen or experienced in teeth, then please use another vet! They should admit if it's not their area of interest and most do recommend a colleague who does this work. Just like you might take you lame horse to someone who likes and sees a lot of lamenesses rather than one who doesn't like that work and concentrates on stud work or something. While most vets on the road are like GPs we all (including human GPs) have strength and weaknesses. It's the way humans are!
