Hi Ann. I am a GP in Pinelands and I studied homeopathy though I no longer practice as a homeopath, though I sometimes prescribe homeopathic meds and apply the principles. My practice focuses on all natural or alternative medicines now as well orthodox scientific medicine when required. I treat all medical problems both acute and chronic and we have a group of other alternative doctors at the practice as well. Any recommendations for a good homeopath in Cape Town

Dr Bronwyn McKenchie is brilliant. So knowledgeable of both Western Medicine as well as Homeopathic Medicine. Because of this she is able to explain the functionality of all medicines in great detail as well as your body's response to it.

Digestive Enzymes are a huge help for me. Sfera Digest-It is great - also has calming herbs for the gut like peppermint and chamomile. I recommend getting tested for Helibactor Pylori etc. Then gut healing protocol: collagen; zinc; slippery elm; l glutamine. Low energy levels indicate low absorption of nutrients (particularly the B vits). I can also suggest keeping a food diary to keep track of potential triggers. And yes, definitely a integrative medical practitioner or homeopath if symptoms persist. My guess is low stomach acid, compromised gut and possible infection.

Hi Elan- It sounds like it could be IBS, but it could also be something more menacing, so seeing a good gastroenterologist is a great idea to see if there is no physiological damage, or Colitis or Crones etc. Step 1- A dietician or a good nutritionist (I can recommend Craig Brown Csb Bodyfusion or Andrew Hudson) will explain what healthy eating is and fiber intake etc, if she understands pretty well what healthy eating is, etc, then they can skip this step. Step 2 when they have determined that it is indeed IBS, is to determine what type (There's 4) they might try treat the microbiome (gut bacteria). a healthy person has about 2kg of bacteria in their belly!!! This can be very helpful, and is done through reintroducing healthy bacteria into the gut through Kefir milk, organic unpasteurized fermented foods etc. Step 3, if this still doesn't help, then the 'expert' might try a FODMAP elimination diet. These specific simple sugars is what causes the discomfort in IBS patients. Normal folk will digest these simple sugars and sugar-replacements like xylitol in the small intestine, but if they lack the correct enzymes and bacteria, the FODMAPS will enter the colon where they don't belong, and that causes the bloating, pain signals and evil effects... [edit]- some of these 'sugars' are in a lot of veggies, like onions, legumes, garlic, broccoli etc- so going low carb might not remove the offending FODMAP as someone else recommended

Could you suggest a homeopath/naturepath in the Wilgeheuvel/Randburg area. Have a problem with intestines/allegergies/spasm of the diaphragm.
Lisa W. replied:
Hi Linda, I don't know of anyone as I live in CT, but I've seen a Dr Nye in CT before who has both allopathic and holistic training and he is great http://www.greenhousehealth.com/ If no-one else in the group is able to help, you might try giving him a call, he has been practising forever and will probably be a good lead for someone closer to you.
