OK just to let everyone know. Dr Wade has retired. I phoned the practice and they made an appointment with Dr Barnard. When I asked the rate, she said it will be R300. The Path Care account will be separate. The receptionist said she's very nice, so I'm hoping the experience won't be as bad as I'm imagining it at the moment. That's why I've been putting it off for so long as Lizette Mapson mentioned!

I've never been let down by the Dr's at the WWC. Dr Agnew as always been spot on each and every time I needed a gyne over the years.

Womans Wellness is excellent, however they are not gynaecologists so my experience was a consultation with them 2 years ago cost me R930.00 and then i had to be referred to a gynaecologist anyway which cost me another R1100 a week later. Therefore should they pick up any abnormality during your general check up with them they cannot proceed and refer you to the gynae. I go straight to a gynae now.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, Amanda Bredenkamp Koker. I haven't personally been to her, but many of my clients go to her and all have had good experiences and that's why I mentioned her. I've been with Dr v Waart in Stellenbosch through both my pregnancies, miscarriage and cyst removals and I trust him completely. (2003-) We sometimes forget that doctors are also humans and they don't always get it right. Trust your instinct and have a back up Dr to confirm or dismiss any diagnosis you're not sure of. I've also heard only good things of Dr Kearney. But I haven't been to her before, so I really can't say. With all the issues I have now, I also expected my current doctor to handle it better. I've been with him since I've been a child, as well as my mom and gran. But now seeking a 2 nd opinion.

Dr. Kearney..... Personally I don't see the point of going to a female doctor regarding female things. If the Dr you go to knows what they're doing and are professional, have a good 'bedside manner' then it shouldn't matter if they are male of female. We have the luxury of having some of the best gynea's in the country like Dr. Van Waart, Dr. Rossouw and Dr Schreuder (all male). Cost is always an important factor to consider, I'm sure if you're upfront and ask for a discount or payment terms most of them will be accommodating. Good luck and I'm sure you'll find one perfect for you.

Corné Van Der Nest Natasha is awesome. Dr Ackerman too, and Dr La Grange def a chiristian as is Natasha. Natasha did a home birth for my one child, Dr Ackerman was my back up if needed. He will let you swing from the rafters if you want. No pressure from him for anything and very experienced.

Corné Van Der Nest Nicole is a doula. You can get hold of her at the Wellness Pod, which has moved to Bright Street, next to the church on the corner of Andries Pretorious.

if you're looking for a female gynaecologist - dr j la grange (+27 21 852 6889) [whom, as far as i know, is a Christian - going on the Scriptures on her wall and other things]. i'm seriously picky, and she's the best by far i've ever been to - and the only one that didn't just want to put me on contraceptives for certain issues, but actually investigated deeper (which was necessary, in the end).

John Fassler the best ever:) But he's in Stellenbosch and only does planned caesarians (spelling incorrect I think). Love him to bits. But for your situation ask Irene Borquin in Somerset West (will be in the phone book). She will be able to give you the names of midwives in the area. Not sure if Irene is still 'doing her thing' but she was great back then with pre-natal classes, providing good solid information and backup

Dr Hugo is no longer taking on new moms I have Ackerman as my gyni amd Natasha as my mid wife. A great team to have. Ackerman is brilliant but some are put off by his "bedside manner" if you want a fantatlstic gyni that gives you facts and doesnt sugar coat anything then he is your man. He really is brilliant!

The best person to see for any detailed scans if there are suspected abnormalities or issues is Linnie Muller, at Panorama Hospital. She's a fetal geneticist specialist and deals with fetal abnormalities. There's also the fetal specialists at Tygerberg Hospital but she's got years more experience. If that is the sort of scan you need?

Dr Lou Pistorius, fetal specialist at Panorama. My own obstetrician referred me to him for detailed scan. He was excellent!

Linnie Muller is excellent. If there isn't a doctor here in the area who can perform a detailed scan checking for cord and placenta positioning, I can recommend her highly. She's the go-to doc in the Western Cape for issues.

I found Dr Hugo extremely professional, but unfortunately no discount on her high consultation fee (no discount for any reason as stated on her patient form). I also called around and R1 250,00 seems to be the standard fee for gynaecologists in this area.

My daughter is 21 and has been with Dr. Sarel Brand for a year now. He is amazing with the young girls and not intrusive. Treats her with the utmost respect and I can't think of a better gynae for a young girl. Her words to me after first visit:" Mom, it wasn't what I expected at all!". We made the appointment without GP referral.
