One great true story that came out of those trips was this one. It's a 6 beer story but I'll try to tell the one-beer version: I was 11, my first year with a shotgun. Dad and I finished hunting with others and were going back to the farmhouse in his car. We passed an open farm gate and I asked why it was open. He stopped and asked if I wanted to hunt some more, as we had some daylight left. I said sure. We drove in and lo and behold, a tenant farmer was there with his arm caught in a corn picker, clear up past his elbow. He'd managed to shut the engine off. Dad had kidney stones and Dr. Ritter had given him morphine. Dad gave the guy a shot and told me to wait with the man while dad called a doctor and ambulance at a nearby farmhouse. When the doc got there, dad said no pain killers because he'd given the guy a shot of morphine. The doc said that was probably the only reason the guy was alive--the morphine kept him from going into shock. The man lost his arm but he lived. Why did I point at the open gate and why did dad drive in there--and the only man in S. Dakota who probably had morphine with him. think it was some sort of divine intervention. I didn't then, but years later, I did. I'll never forget it.

Need a recommendation for a dentist for Joey; someone who is conservative, sympathetic to a young person with no dental insurance. GO...
