The CC Camp [named 'Patman' came to Cooper in the 30's. It was located where the 'Old' ball fields were across the street from L.C. Talleys house and down the road south. Many boys were stationed here. One was C.C. Blackie Calvin.

Congressman Wright Patman from Texarkana was a big player in the Depression Congress. He had lots of clout along with Speaker Sam Rayburn, who was once the most powerful politician in the nation. Kennedy asked Mr. Sam about maybe being his running mate and he told him he was already more powerful than a president, so Kennedy picked Johnson, whom he really hated, but he needed Texas and the South to win.

COOPER REVIEW, Dec. 1935..."Word was received this week that the Patman C.C.C. Camp would likely be moved from Cooper January 1 due to lack of contracts." Many Delta County boys joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, but none [that I knew] were sent to the Cooper camp. Wendell Alley was sent to Baggs, WY.
James S. replied:
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built many erosion control structures. On the old Harriet Wright place on FM 895, some concrete weirs can still be seen and they worked to keep the ditch from eroding. Many state parks were built. Bearver's Bend State Park was a CCC project.

Hands down Fly Dog Fitness at 7:30 am Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Simply show up at the parking lot near the ballfields. I go to the one in Park Circle at 6 am. Never a repeat workout. Great mix of cardio and weight/body weight training.

Hello Campers. I need directions from Charleston to the camp. Help please.
Lisa A. replied:
There are two ways, each start with going up I79. 1st route: get off at Big Chimney, turn right. Go straight through stop sign and cross bridge. At light at end of bridge, turn left. You will come to the Pinch/Quick intersection with a gas station on the left. Bear right and check your odometer. In 7 miles, you will see Dutch Ridge Rd on the left. Turn up it. You will go 8 miles and on the right you will see a road that goes down hill as well as a mail box for Blue Creek Academy (formerly Galahad). Turn right and head down hill. It is approximately 1 mile to Galahad. When you get to the bottom of the hill, turn right and stay right if you see a road head off to the left. You'll drive straight to Galahad. From there, do not cross their bridge. Stay on the road/creek. This is a double crossing. Once you've crossed here, your next crossing will be the crossing at Camelot. The only way to know is because you can see the old bridge abutments up on the bank.
