This is the information that was sent to me. Local organizations such as Red Cross offer classes, but do not keep a list of participants. Red Cross actually has baby sitting training classes. I also heard the health department had a baby sitting class at one time. Another recommendation was a website called care.com. You can enter your zip code and specific needs for sitters, pet care, eldercare, etc. and the website does the background checks.
