Not a doctor or really an answer to your question, but I follow Anna Clandenning on Instagram and she has and suffers from this currently and she is a great source of positivity in this matter. I know this isn't a "solution", but maybe someone to follow or share with about it who is suffering from it. Assuming you find the right person to talk to, another thing that can make a huge improvement is eating right and proper exercise. If you have to pick from one or the other, my suggestion would be to focus on the eating vs the exercise. Good luck on your recovery.

Not sure what your means are, but if you're like a lot of people and maybe don't have great insurance, Cherokee Health Systems over near Eastgate has behavioral health professionals and psychiatrists on hand. They can also recommend you somewhere if you need it. I've used them up until recently and I honestly think they're great.

7 Cups of Tea is a great app, it lets you message people on your phone if you don't feel like talking. I highly recommend Carla Davis in Hixson. She has a lot of different specialty areas, and doesn't force religion on you.

When things start to chill out and you're ready to be around people, the Chattanooga Pendulums meet at the AIM Center downtown on Thursdays at 6:30. It's a bipolar and depression support group. You should really consider going one night. Lots of folks that can relate.
CrustyHandJob replied:
If you go to the ER they can do a psych evaluation and possibly get you into a treatment center such as Parkridge Valley (run by Parkridge Hospital). I know there may or may not be a large $$$$$ issue depending on your circumstances, but that beats the alternative of being dead. If you got some friends call em and hang out with them, that's better than being alone. Will say a prayer for ya friend.

If money is a concern please check out Mental Health Cooperative. They offer free or reduced cost services depending on your situation. I went there for about a year and saw both a therapist and psychiatrist for free. They helped save me then. If you can afford therapy I recommend Marnie Hemphill.

Just checking back in on you. I have a friend from high school that is a psychiatrist, Jennie Mahaffey. I would highly recommend her. Reach out and talk to anyone and everyone you can. We're here for you, too.

I saw Liz Gates for a while at the recommendation of my insurance. She’s really great and has helped me develop a more positive perspective. I saw her for general counseling but I believe she takes a variety of cases. Best of luck and good vibes to you.

Brother I know how you feel. I saw that you talked to a hotline rep and I’m extremely happy for you that you took that step. Another option is that you can text 741741 and have a text conversation with a crisis counselor if you don’t feel like talking.
fiscalia replied:
Thank you for asking for help instead of going through it alone. Lost my bro at Christmas six years ago and I just wish he’d called me first! Here on PM if you need.
Outboarder replied:
Lots of great comments and I'm happy you chatted with someone. I've been quite low lately and learned that taking vitamin d supplements during winter months when you may not get much sun can help. There's been studies showing a correlation between low vitamin d and depression. Seems to help me and I wanted to mention it. Definitely visit a counselor and try some outpatient (or in patient) therapy. Perspective with peers in the same boat was really beneficial when I tried suicide several years ago. Much love. Don't be impulsive. You'll look back on this time one day and be glad you stuck around.
PattiLuPWNed replied:
Anyone at CMI counseling downtown. Reasonable cost, quick appointments if you just want to see whoever is available. Great in times of crisis, but to fill the holiday weekend, call hotlines. Talk to people as much as you can. Stay engaged with others. Then start with CMI Tuesday. It's under the umbrella of a Christian college but they don't have to be religious at all, and respect all beliefs.
lbwnp replied:
If you didn’t call the hotline and are still looking for help call Joe Johnson mental health center, 423.634.8884
wiharu replied:
Joe Johnson is a good place to start. If money is an issue... they have a Crisis Stabilization Unit to help get you (get you back) on meds and then start a follow up plan to get therapy/meds/caseworker to help ongoing. If money isn't an issue and you have insurance.... you seem to have been given some other resources.... I'm going through a very tough time right now, but I keep trying. Keep at it; sadly, there are not a lot of aggressive therapy-related organizations who will "do it for you"... you have to continually reach out and ask for help, even though you are drained and can barely hang on, you have to keep thrashing in the water, so to speak. I hope you find your bliss... I know I hope I find mine. Take care and the new year is near.... better things again, eh wot?

Lower-middle class standing has worked for my parents. And occasional visits to psychiatrists. > my wife doesn't trust someone who gets kick-backs for selling prescriptions So she doesn't trust MDs either? All kidding aside, don't discount a shrink because they take money from pharma companies. I know hospitals will often keep different kinds of therapists on staff, so you may want to contact Erlanger or Memorial if you're having trouble just finding someone. Good luck, and I hope it works out.
