Looking for a stereo repair shop/person in Chicago. I have an old Sears Silvertone record console that needs lots of work - looking to have someone who's able to do...

Hey there. Don't mean to sound rude, but that thing is not worth repairing. Giant Stereo consoles were in just about everyone's grandparents/parents house since the 60's. There are thousands of these out there and usually most people give them away on Craigslist just to get rid of them. The sound quality is awful, the record player will destroy your vinyl, etc., etc. I understand that they look cool and everything but you are much better off putting together a vintage system for probably less than it would cost to fix it. OR, you could even do a DIY project and update it. Basically, rip out the guts and replace them with a new amp, maybe an MP3 player, better speakers, and a better used turntable. Just my two cents. Good luck either way.

Your mileage may vary but at the end of the day parts for this machine probably aren't available and will require component level repair which for most shops isn't worth the time and for you probably not worth the cost. There is gear out there right now from even 15 years ago that repair shops won't touch because you can no longer get parts, never mind something pre-70 s/80 s. If you do find someone, expect to pay out the ass and probably more than the item itself is worth. We have this wonderful Grundig Stereo that we need repaired. Anyone know anyone who's up to the task?
Thank you kindly!

I believe audio archaeology does restore consoles. If not I'm sure they can direct you to a reputable restorer.http://www.audioarchaeology.com/vintage-audio
